Computer Help Please

I have to do some overtime work at home, however I am having a hard time doing it because I can't seem to open documents I send from work home and vice versa. At my job we are running on an old version of windows (I have word 2003 here) and at home I have windows vista. Does anyone know if there is anything I can do so I can open the documents both at work and at home? I save the work and attach it. This weekend I typed up an entire complaint, and sent it to my work e-mail as an attachment and as a regular email. When I got to work and opened the attachment, I just got a bunch of symbols, when I opened the e-mail and went to print it, it was all over the place. I would have no problem printing it at home, but we have to e-mail the work for review. TIA

I know that you can go from old versions of documents to new versions, but not from new to old. The old system doesn't recognize the new formats.

If they are just text documents maybe you can save them as pdf files before you attach them, then it's the adobe reader that is reading it and not Word.

When you go to "save" the document at home with your NEW version of Windows, as you click on "Save As" there will pop up a window.
There is a line that says what to name the document and under that is: SAVE AS TYPE: with a pull down menu of options. Save it as an older file such as on mine is offers "Word 97-2003". Then your file can be read and worked with on the older and the newer versions.

Glad it worked. I have a son who is my "computer expert", lol.

Funny story. A number of years ago I worked for a firm and their computer system had a big problem and I was taking my break in a room with the computer guys. They didn't know what to do. I know only a teeny bit, and so I said "did you start Windows in safe mode?" They stared at me and then, believe it or not they tried that and it worked. Now either I am smart or people they hire as "computer people" aren't that great, lol.
