I know that you can go from old versions of documents to new versions, but not from new to old. The old system doesn't recognize the new formats. If they are just text documents maybe you can save them as pdf files before you attach them, then it's the adobe reader that is reading it and not Word.

When you go to "save" the document at home with your NEW version of Windows, as you click on "Save As" there will pop up a window. There is a line that says what to name the document and under that is: SAVE AS TYPE: with a pull down menu of options. Save it as an older file such as on mine is offers "Word 97-2003". Then your file can be read and worked with on the older and the newer versions.

Thank you I was able to save it like Rose said and it worked Now if only our computer person here would have been told this, he told me there was nothing that could be done.

Funny story. A number of years ago I worked for a firm and their computer system had a big problem and I was taking my break in a room with the computer guys. They didn't know what to do. I know only a teeny bit, and so I said "did you start Windows in safe mode?" They stared at me and then, believe it or not they tried that and it worked. Now either I am smart or people they hire as "computer people" aren't that great, lol.
