I just can't believe it. I absolutely adored him.

Oh how sad, I really liked him. I feel so bad for his sons. They lost a great father. May he rest in peace.

I just feel so bad about this. I had been following his recovery so when I got up this morning and read that he passed away yesterday, it was quite a shock.

His sons, Josh and Jake, are in my thoughts. Out of all the people on Deadliest Catch, Phil was my favorite. Rest in peace Captain.

It is amazing how much this saddened me too! He was such a gruff and tough kind of guy, but I really liked him! I also had been following his progress and was surprised to read he had died. He will truly be missed by many people!

We were saddened by this news. I always liked the way he wanted his sons to earn their way on the boat, nothing was handed to them! He was our favorite too! Our son in law has actually seen the Cornelia Marie when he was off the coast of Alaska while working for Exxon.

I was so sad too! Captain Phil has always been my favorite on the show! Prayers to his sons and family!!

Very sad. I'm glad they at least had a few days to be with him before he died. That would help lessen the shock a little bit. I'm just used to people dropping dead so it's nice they could possible say goodbye (even he was unconscious) and/or have a little bit of preparation, etc...

I was so shocked when I heard this. They're collecting messages of support and sympathy over on the Discovery Channel msg boards to give to his sons - I've already posted mine.

I really liked him - as I told a friend once, I'm not sure I'd want him to date my (hypothetical) daughter- but hell yeah I'd have gone out with him (lol)....
