I didn't realize there were places that didn't require a prescription. My husband has one med he takes that is not available in generic form, so our insurance won't cover it. He's had to use a different type of med and it doesn't always works as well as he would like.

You are probably aware of this idea but in case you aren't, if you are taking say xyz med, 4mg, twice a day, you can often talk your doctor into giving you script for xyz med, 8mg, twice a day and then you can cut them in half and get twice the doses off of one prescription. Pain in the butt, but doable. There is often very little price difference between 4mg and 8mg pills. Of course this only works with tablets. There are places like Walmart and some pharmacies, and grocery stores, that have hundreds of generics that they only charge 4 or 5 dollars for. So if your meds fit what they have that would save money. Just our co-pays for the ones we take every month run into more than we can really spend. I do all mine with the medicare group that runs our insurance through mail order. That helps. But if you don't have mail order available then even the co-pays start to sting. |

I was seriously considering this for when hubby retires, as his health isn't very good and he will only be 63 then. One thing that worries me, is that I heard sometimes the govt. has the post office confiscate the orders and then they toss them, thereby wasting your money. I don't know why they just won't let you order from them. My husband also takes lots of meds and we are on a limited income. Once he has to pay for all the meds, it will be really hard. These drug companies are making money out the wazoo. Why can't they skip all their commercials, etc. and just lower the price for the common person.

If your medication is non-generic you can ask your doctor for samples and tell them you cannot afford them. As soon as a drug goes generic the samples stop being given to the doctor. Being in the medical field please be careful as the drugs are not FDA approved. Therefore the chemical make-ups are different than the ones you might receive here. Also there is no following on if you order a 5 mg tablet that you are getting 5 mg of the effective part of the medication. Being on the consumer side, financially I totally understand. There are some companies (like Astra Zenica) that can do financial assistance "if you qualify." But the post from wildwood is correct. Ask your physician for double the mg if the drug is a scored tablet. Also, ask your doctor for coupons as the reps will typically drop them off as well. I do know that some drugs (like Voltaren Gel) the co-pay is the same for one tube versus 5 tubes. You can even ask the doctor if the prescription is for one time a day ask if they can write for 2 times a day with you understanding it is to really be taken one time a day. Hope this helps - these are some suggestions that I have learned through the years. |

Try walmart as they now ship to anywhere for your meds. Hopefully you are on some of their $4 meds. Try the drug company. My daughter gets her Concerta paid for by the drug company as her income is very low and does not make enought per month to buy this very expensive med. She needs it or she would not have her job or be able to live with her.
