| Cleaning with a timer
Has anyone heard of and used FlyLady.net: Your personal online coach to help you gain control of your house and home to help you organize your home and keep it clean? I've been doing it on and off for many years, and what I've found most useful for me is to follow the routines and use my timer. It may sound idiotic, but I put the timer on for 5 minutes and circulate on one floor of my home - 5 minutes for each room. Then I do another round before I move to the next floor. By the time I've gone through the house twice, I've made significant improvement. What are your cleaning routines, and what works best for you?

I found FlyLady a few years ago and love it. I had to stop subscribing to the emails though because there's so many of them! Here's what I use from Flylady: Clean kitchen sink - no dirty dishes at bedtime Keep toilet wand with Lysol or Mr. Clean in holder and brush toilet daily Use the timer to clean Use a basket for organization Every item has a place If you pick up and put up, you'll keep a clean house Shower and put on makeup and clean clothes every morning (I did that even before FlyLady). Usually my house is clean enough that when visitors drop by, I don't ever have to scramble to put things up. I can just open the door and not make excuses. |

It was my day off and my husband went fishing so I had the house to myself. I cleaned the whole house. I also made a curtain for my kitchen. It is satisfying to do a deep cleaning however I am dog tired. I'm with you Mom2twins2 I like everything to have a place and I use lots of baskets for organization. Believe it or not, it's harder to keep a small house clean. Dust collects everywhere and since there's no room to move around furniture everything has to be pushed aside. In my fantasies I have a home with big rooms and I can go around the furniture. Oh yeah in those fantasies I also have a live in cleaning lady!

I like to use a list. When you check things off that are not especially visable, you can see by the list what you have done. Example: Living Room ... Pick up ... Fluff pillows and cushions ...Dust ... Vacuum ...Clean TV screen, windows, etc.

Let me tell you I am SOOOO not a cleaning person. Not only am I lazy and HATE cleaning I also have a bad back and the pain that comes with it is not fun. That being said I also know that I do NOT want bugs in my house. I do the timing method. I will set the timer for 20 minutes and clean that entire time..Then I will rest for 20 minutes and then clean again for 20 minutes. I do this as long as I can tolerate the pain.I was surprised how much I would get accomplished in that 20 minutes so thus it encouraged me to continue this way. I do Not go to bed with a clean house every night but I make an effort and that is what counts. FlyLady rocks!!
