Cat In The Hat Ideas for Older Girls

Hello.
My daughter is a spirit captain at her all girls school (6-12th) and she is in charge of Cat In The Hat activities.
Does anyone have any ideas?? They usually have activities for the girls during break and at lunch time to tie into the day's theme.
The girls are, for the most part, fun and willing to do anything that is why I put that it was a girls school. I suppose with no boys around a lot of them do not care if they act like a 2nd grader!!
Thank you in advance with any suggestions.
(Target is having a Dr. Suess day Saturday so we were going to go there for some ideas too)
My daughter is dressing up as a Thing 1 or 2 for that day.

I can email you a pattern for a striped hat. The girls can color the stripes red and white, cut them out and wear them for the day. They can balance things on their head like a book, tea cup, etc like the Cat did.

Hope this helps. I have 40 first graders coming to the library for activities with me tha day. :-0

I also have Dr. Seuss bingo cards that you can print out. She would need prizes. Prizes could be pencils, pens, small candy, dollar store things. You can put them on a table, and let the kids pick out as they win. When I've done group things, as I start running out of time, I have the kids play until their card is completely covered, instead of starting a new game. It goes faster andI try to make sure that everyone wins something before we stop. Did that make sense?

I would need to email those separately to you. PM me if you want them. I would need your email address as they are a file.

I work at the library. We bought a bunches of Dr. Seuss bookmarks. You could ask at your public library childrens department if they would donate some bookmarkers for prizes. They wouldn't even have to be Dr. Seuss bookmarkers. They promote reading and that's what the Dr. Seuss day is all about. That would make a prize choice or a thank you for participating at the end of the session.

Dr. Seuss doorknob hanger: (I would print on cardstock)

Dr. Seuss Resources from K2 Printables

You can read The Foot Book and then play the game Twister.

Maybe they could serve Green Eggs and Ham for lunch that day.

What is a spirit captain? Are Cat In the Hat activities a common thing at schools, or just a theme for her school's party? I'm so out of touch!

Celebrating Dr. Seuss BDay on March 2 or 3rd (I can't remember which day right now) has gotten to be a big thing. Many schools and libraries sponser a "Read Across America" with special events and activities to encourage kids to read. Because Dr. Seuss has written so many fun books they use him to celebrate reading.

We have a ton of stuff going on in our town but then between my job at the library and schools that I volunteer at I'm plugged into the whole thing a little bit more than most.

As to a spirit captain, I'm guessing she helps to keep things positive and fun for the girls and the school~ It sounds like a good thing to be involved with!!

This is fun

Take a full size brown paper bag from a grocery store. It takes some fussing with, but you can roll the bottom of the bag up a few times to make a brim. Makes a big huge funny hat.

We have even seen this as a booth at a fair where they were charging big bucks for kids to decorate them. You can just use markers and stickers, or paint, glue, feathers, sequins, etc. I can e-mail you a pic if you need one.

Thanks for the explanation. Geez, I live in Dr. Seuss' home state, and I didn't know!

Thank you guys for all the great suggestions!!!!
Jujubee2~Spirit Captain is in charge of spirit week at school.
Her school has two spirit weeks (fall and spring). It is pretty much like the week before homecoming in most schools.
This spring it is going to be "book" week. One day is Dr Suess, Winnie the Pooh, Charlie Brown, Guiness Book of World Records and Harry Potter.
Each day is based around that book and the girls dress up and have activites that work around the days theme.
The school is divided into two (Green Team and White Team) and your team gets points throughout the year for spirit. There is a green and white banner in the gym and at the end of the year one team is awarded the winner.
Donnaquilt~I will PM you because BINGO is always a fall back on activity and having those cards would make it more special.
