This is what I saw on t v one time Score the paper everywhere and applythe fabric softner (mixed with water) to whe entire wall with a roller and then stick a cheap plastic tarp to the wet walls and leave it there til the next day (or 2) when it dries and pull the tarp off and all the paper comes off in one piece and sticks to the tarp. |

What I've done has worked very well in the past. It's messy, so put dropcloths along the baseboards! Score the paper with the point of a sharp kitchen knife or the corner of a scraper/putty knife. Next, squirt the wall down with very hot water. The hotter the better. I have used an old Windex bottle, but if you have a huge area to do, your hand could get tired and cramped. My favorite equipment for this job is one of those lawn sprayer tank things with a wand. I think they're under $20 at WalMart. It's nice because you can fill the tank and then just wave the wand around and wet the wall down. Wet an area that's about 5' - 8' wide or so, and then go watch tv for thirty minutes. The key really is in the timing. You want the wallpaper to get good and saturated, but you don't want to leave it for soooo long that the water starts to evaporate. You should be able to scrape it off in big swaths with a wide putty / drywall putty sort of a scraper tool. Move on to the next section... or if you want, you can always wet a 'next section' every fifteen minutes and just work your way around the room. |

We just had to deal with few papered walls. One was was cheaper and easier to take down and put new wall board up. The other we took a steamer to and then a sander. Then we hired a guy to put another thin coat of plaster over to make the wall smooth and pretty again. Wallpaper should be illegal! |
