Window Treatment Help!

My home has an open floor plan, and you can see the breakfast nook windows from the living room. In the living room, there are three huge windows on one side, and on the other side there's one (even larger) window, framed by two smaller windows. The windows are 74" tall. Currently, I have white curtains that are almost sheers, but just a little thicker, hanging on tension rods half way down the windows, which cover the bottom portion of the windows. I like this look because I want the light, but also some privacy.

I have two slightly lighter than olive green microfiber sofas on layaway, and a maroon recliner. The throw pillows I've picked out for the sofas are the same color green, maroon and gold.

I really want my windows to look good, but am on an extremely tight budget. I wanted to do the "bottom up" shades, but they're just too expensive. So, if I go with curtains sort of like what I have now, what color should I go with? Are there other options I'm not considering? Should I make the windows in the breakfast nook match what I put in the living room? Or does it matter?

I admit - I'm very challenged when it comes to decorating, but I just moved in September and I love this house...I really want to make it look great, but not spend an arm and a leg. HELP!

Thanks!
Mariah

What color are your walls?
What other furniture do you have?
Any other colors anywhere?

My walls are white - I have 14 foot ceilings. Other furniture...other than the couches on layaway, I have an oak coffee table and matching end tables, the maroon leather recliner I mentioned, and two glass lamps filled with seashells with tan-ish gold shades. And then I have an oak cabinet the tv sits on, and an oak DVD cabinet.

The living room opens up to what's supposed to be a formal dining room, but because it's carpeted, we don't use it as such. In there, there's another sofa that's sort of a mixture between green, light maroon and tan, mostly tan, oak end tables and a stand with my plants on it. This room is the "other side" of the living room I mentioned above, with the other windows.

That's pretty much it. We really minimized the things we had when we moved...I wanted a really clean, bright, open home and now I've got it...just not sure what to do with it, LOL.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Mariah

Hello , I am new to this forum. I guess the best place to start is to just jump in.

I would pick something that will go with everything that you have, and in a color family that would will like if you decided to change something. It depends what you are going for color-wise. Just going on what you said, you can do a tan colored sheer, maroon, etc. Just make sure all your colors kind of flow and not clash.

I would be able to give a better opinion if I could actually see a picture of the room with the walls, windows, furniture, and floor.
