Wink The way you clean a rug is to get a new rug amen !!!!

Omg I literally hate rugs especially when you have pets like I do with my shelties and my cats and kids and here in New York with all the very cold weather and all the snow and all the lovely soooooo much sand they spread need I say more. Okay here is the story I have a 3 level home on the main floor we only had a rug in the den it was a wine colored rug only about 3 years old we have had it cleaned several times due to the weather and the pets and the kids and their friends. Also the den leads out to the backyard and the deck so of course whatever is in the yard gets brought into the den even with cleaning your shoes. So after cleaning it a couple of times it was smelly yucky , we decided thats it time to go and my husband put down wood floor best thing we could have ever done. We do have rugs in all the bedrooms but the dogs are confined to the kitchen eat in part of the kitchen and the huge den. In the bedroom the rugs are great. But I will always say the way you clean a rug is you pick it up and replace it omg all the dogs hair I can see now with the wood floor I am totally loving it and my swiffer as never been used so much. Peace to all. Catherine

I agree Catherine. We replaced our rugs with laminate flooring two years ago and it's the best decision in the house we ever made! I would never have carpet again especially after seeing how nasty the rugs were when they were taken out. With rugs the dirt gets pushed deep into the fibers with wood or laminate it sits on top. So you can't really ever clean the rug no matter what you think or how much you vacuum and steam it or whatever you try to do. It may look clean on top but the dirt is there under the surface. With the laminate you just Swiffer or electric broom or vacuum then mop and you have a clean floor!

I agree. I hate rugs. We've replaced half our house with laminate floor.
We bought the house from the original owners. They didn't have pets and their kids were grown when the built this house, so it was just the two of them living here. I couldn't believe how dirty the rugs were underneath when they were pulled up.
Now we have to do the bedrooms. Hopefully it will be with in the next two years.

The problem with the laminate floors and dogs is our Sheltie is going on 13 yrs old and she's restless at night. So she goes up and down the hall trying to get comfortable and her toenails click, click, click!! If the outside temp is decent, I'll get up and put her out as she'd rather sleep outside.
Right after we installed the wood floors about 3 yrs ago I bought a stick vac. It looks like a glorified dustbuster with a handle and cord. However, that's the best little vac for cleaning up the floor. I then use my dry swiffer to get the really fine stuff and underneath the furniture.
Vac is similar to the Versa at the bottom of the page only mine isn't convertible. Bought it as a Black Friday leftover for $10

That's what I use a Dirt Devil Stick Vac I call it the "electric broom" because growing up we had a Bissel Electric Broom for the kitchen ( I think my Mom still has and uses it!).
