| Replacement Windows
Let's talk about replacement windows by brand, quality, guarantee, etc if you have experience in having this done. I am especially interested because of the $1500 tax credit for energy efficient windows. I know nothing about this and would appreciate input from those who have gone through this. tia, dl |

My Mom recently had replacement windows put in throughout her house (well, 3 years ago actually.....WOW, time flies). I think they were Anderson Windows. I'll have to ask my brother and see if he can remember. I'll get back to you. LOL....... I know he has raved about the windows.

Replacing windows can get confusing and drive you crazy. My thought on the subject is.....if your windows are bad enough to need replaced, then you need to replace the whole thing. I have never been fond of alot of "replacement" windows I see out there as many of them look like mobile home units. Have you ever driven around and noticed new windows in homes that look bluish or similar to oil in a water puddle? How about a wavy appearance? I would be mortified if I had new windows put in and they ended up looking like this. We have replaced all of the windows in our home over the last 5 years. We have a combination of Marvin, Anderson, and Pella. I like different things about each of them. What I didn't like was the Pella brand I saw that is sold at one of the big box home improvement stores (can't remember which one). They seemed to be a cheaper version that the ones from the actual Pella Store. Same thing with the Anderson windows. You need to go to an actual Anderson or Pella dealer. I believe they all come with the low E glass with the argon gas between the panes. The blinds that come between the panes of glass are well worth the extra $$. They work fabulous. Many of the replacement window companies only offer vinyl on the inside and outside. I'm not a real vinyl lover and wanted aluminum outside and wood inside so I could stain and varnish the inside to match the inside of the house. Something I'm really glad we did was change the kitchen sink window to a casement instead of the double hung. It is soooo much easier to open and close since I'm only 5'4". Good Luck on your search for new windows. |

Sorry for the delay...... Yes, the windows were Anderson, with vinyl frames. I would call a few different dealers in your area and get quotes and see who you feel most comfortable with. My brother said the house was a bit of a mess while they did the install, but, they did clean up after themselves pretty well. HTH
