Never took the pain killers the next day when I could stay awake. the lady in the next bed had a worse time of it than me if I remember right I only had 3-4 little incisions but I think she had the large cut. the worst part was being woken up to roll over when you was trying to sleep at night in hospital. mine was taken out almost 16 years ago. Oldest son was in for surgery when he was a couple months old, I was admitted the very day he was released

Just had mine removed in January, laproscopically. I ate normal food after a couple days of liquids. Wasn't really hungry for a few days post-op. I took two weeks off work and took it easy the next week at work-I'm a teacher so I sat as often as I could. Don't be a martyr, take a couple weeks and heal properly. They tell you not to lift anything over 20 pounds for a month-take that advice, even though you may feel much better much sooner. It can really set you back. I took the painkillers for about a week-I liked them. I have eaten anything and everything and haven't had one bit of sickness from it, from what I understand, that is not common. I used to get sick if I ate fatty or spicy foods. It's been two months and my bm's are just now getting back to normal. I know, tmi, but it's part of the process-the body needs to learn to live without the gb. I do have to go anywhere from 2-4 times before I leave for work each day. Check out youtube to see videos of the surgery-cool stuff, unless you're squeamish. I forget the technical name for the surgery-cholycystectomy or something like that.

I had mine removed a couple of years ago. I was kept over night because of I have heart issues. The surgery was a breeze! I highly recommend taking it easy for at least a week though. I was driving 4 days later and went shopping. I ended up with some swelling at one of the incision sites and that was more uncomfortable than the surgery itself. You may find some food that won't agree with you especially at first. Now, a few years down the road, nothing seems to bother me. Best of luck. After 2 attacks, I was really happy to lose my gallbladder!

I had mine removed about 1995 or so and it did not take me long to recover. I was released from the hospital the next day and slept on painkillers for that half a day and all the next day then I was back to normal. I don't remember changing my eating habits but they were horrendous back then.

I had mine removed in December 2006... Stayed in the hospital for a couple of days - once home, I was on a liquid diet for 4-5 days, then told to eat soft foods until I felt like I could handle "normal" foods. As for pain meds, I didn't really need any once I got home...maybe a tylenol here and there. p.s. also had laproscopic

| Thank you!
Thank you all for the advice. Unfortunately, I didn't see my doctor after surgery( ), so I didn't know what to expect. I'm trying to ditch the Vicodin, but that belly button pain is something else. I was able to have some lunch so I think I'm off to a good start. Thank you all for giving me the advice my doctor didn't!
