Please Read: For All Drivers & Bike Riders

Thought For The Afternoon: While I was driving today, I saw way too many close calls with motorcycles & cars. For the drivers of the cars: PLEASE REMEMBER the following: "He rides on steel, But he's not Ironman. Look twice, save a life. Someone important to us rides."

For the riders: PLEASE REMEMBER as well that YOU may ride on steel BUT you are not made of it. You have to ride with care because not all drivers take the time to look twice.

As someone with loved ones that ride, it makes me cringe to see the close calls and/or read about the bikers being killed this time of year. Okay........off of my soap box!

Around here many bike riders think they are above the law. I have almost hit them many times simply because they chose to not stop or chose to dart in front of me to make a left or something else dumb like that.

One of DD's groomsmen in her wedding two years ago died in a horrible motorcycle accident about 3 months after the wedding. He left a wife and 3 small children

My SIL, Luke, had bought a motorcycle a few months before John died. After the accident, Luke never rode the bike again and sold it immediately. He said he could never put Kelly through what John's wife endured. We were all so glad because we HATED Luke's motorcycle (actually, we HATE all motorcycles).

We just heard last week that another one of Luke's co-workers was in an accident and really messed up his leg -- rods, pins, the whole works. He will be off work for 6-8 months. All he did was hit some gravel and went flying.

And the maintenance man where I work is a volunteer fireman/paramedic. He was telling me this morning that he got called last night to a motorcycle accident on the expressway where the rider had to be airlifted by helicopter. I guess the guy was severely injured

I am a dork I thought you were talking about bicycles. The motorcyclists drive very carefully. I always feel a little scared when I see someone following one too closely and just a few weeks ago here some idiot in a pickup made a left turn in front of one with a young man and his 6 yr old son riding a bike on a sunny day and almost killed them both.

What's New | "Motorcyclist, boy hurt in crash" | The Register-Guard | Eugene, Oregon

A security camera got about a 2 second film of the truck but as of yet they have not identified the truck or the driver. On the news you could see the little boy's shoes that he flew out of when he was thrown. They were both wearing helmets and the bike was not speeding or doing anything wrong. The idiot either just didn't see them or thought he could turn fast enough.

I thought the same thing! And it's the same way here.
They don't call motorcycles "donor cycles" for nothing. They are definitely a risk. My godson has a Harley, a wife and a daugher named Harlee! Maybe, since he beat a very rare form of testicular cancer and was never supposed to be able to father a child but did, he thinks he is invincible. I think anyone riding a motorcylce with children at home is being irresponsible. Just my opinion. As you all know, I lost too many people growing up and I hate to see people, especially with children, take unneccessary risks.

Why would someone have their 6yr old on a motorcycle with them???? That child has no choice and has no idea of the magnitude of his decision if he in fact could make the decision.

My DH knew that when he married me, he would never ride or buy a motorcycle....ever. I waited too long to find him and I don't intend to lose him that way. Yeah...lots of people ride them and everything is fine...and yes, people die from all sorts of things...but riding a motorcyle on a road wtih cars and semi trucks is just asking for trouble in my book.

Of course, I feel the same way about bicycles too. If you ride them on the streets with all of the cars and trucks, you are just asking for trouble that you aren't going to win.

I don't hate motorcycle or bikes and I know they have a "right" to be on the road. If someone hits you and kills you, how did exercising your "right" work out for you????? We all take risks in life. Those are two that I don't want to take or want my loved ones to take.

Geez.....one time DH want to test drive a small convertible. We pulled up next to a semi . I told him then that he or I would never drive that small of a car. I guess that I like him too much and want him to be around for a looong time. LOL!

+ 1 about a child on motorcycle. Why bother having carseat laws when you can strap a kid on a motorcycle and go 60 mph? Crazy rules.

YouTube - Test Your Awareness: Do The Test

Stay safe out there and wear a helmet. I ride a road bike along pretty busy roads. It is a choice we make because the trails are actually more dangerous in our opinion because we ride pretty fast and I often ride alone. I am not a fan of motorcycles, but to each their own. We all pay taxes for the roads and we all have a right to use them.

Please be careful out there. That 10 seconds you think you are saving could cost someone their life.

Drivers here seem to try to hit both motorcycles and bicycles. We have a motorcycle and enjoy riding it but we mostly only do so during rallys or poker runs where we are in a group of motorcycles. that way we feel more secure that cars will see us. I have seen many riders who are rude about road rules as well. I think everyone needs to just drive and ride with respect and safety

There was just a guy killed by me, he was hit by a drunk driver who left the scene I have family members who ride, so if I see anyone riding I always make sure to keep a distance between us, I do the same for trucks also. I have never experienced any problems with the men/women riding Harleys, now for those riding those other bikes I have seen them go in and out of traffic at high rates of speed, do wheelies and other stupid acts which are just asking for something to go wrong. When I was pregnant with my DS a few friends and I were driving and this guy thought he was being cool zipping in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed near a curve. As he passed us I said something to my friend that I hope he knew enough to slow down, just as I said it we heard a crash. When we got to the scene it was horrible and something I will never forget. I don't want to gross anyone out so I will just say there was a guardrail involved and the poor guy ws killed instantly. Now with the weather getting warmer and more people out riding, you have to be careful and look twice.

I always like to give the riders a little tap with my mustang. You should see the look on their faces.

Hi, everyone!! I am glad that everyone whether they like motorcycles or not was able to keep things civilized AND then the troll had to strike. Shaking my head at the ignorance of some that thrive on trying to stir up trouble ALL of the time.

Any way, may we all continue to be safe as we travel whether it is by 2 wheels or 4 wheels.

If you would have said a school prayer every morning you wouldn't be such an ignorant vicious b!tch. I wonder how God feels about you saying this stupid stuff because I know for a fact you don't really do this. If you did, first of all someone would beat your @$$ second of all you'd be rotting in prison.
