No, actually it is more earthquakes. Someone I know researched it, and it has actually been increasing, especially the past 3 years.

Are Earthquakes Really on the Increase? We continue to be asked by many people throughout the world if earthquakes are on the increase. Although it may seem that we are having more earthquakes, earthquakes of magnitude 7.0 or greater have remained fairly constant. A partial explanation may lie in the fact that in the last twenty years, we have definitely had an increase in the number of earthquakes we have been able to locate each year. This is because of the tremendous increase in the number of seismograph stations in the world and the many improvements in global communications. In 1931, there were about 350 stations operating in the world; today, there are more than 8,000 stations and the data now comes in rapidly from these stations by electronic mail, internet and satellite. This increase in the number of stations and the more timely receipt of data has allowed us and other seismological centers to locate earthquakes more rapidly and to locate many small earthquakes which were undetected in earlier years. The NEIC now locates about 20,000 earthquakes each year or approximately 50 per day. Also, because of the improvements in communications and the increased interest in the environment and natural disasters, the public now learns about more earthquakes. According to long-term records (since about 1900), we expect about 17 major earthquakes (7.0 - 7.9) and one great earthquake (8.0 or above) in any given year. I came upon this for predictions for 2010..Not sure I believe in people actually being able to predict the future but I hope this and especially the end of this is NOT true as My mom lives ON the gulf of mexico in florida. She has Waterfront property too..Scary. “The years 2010 through 2011 will see a spike in climate change never before experienced. There will be stronger earthquakes, typhoons, tornadoes and hurricanes, droughts and floods will make all that happened in the 2009 and its far more devastating predecessor, 2008, look tame in comparison. A few weeks after the ladies and gentlemen of the climate change debate club at Co*******n have passed too little and too less binding goals for reducing carbon emissions, retribution will begin. You will see this spike loom up in early advents of the typhoon season in the Western Pacific and tornados in the American Midwest and Gulf States of unexpected ferociousness.”

Dont think it's any diffrent. just another panic theory that no one knows for sure. like loseing all the computrized systems in 2000. Now the world will end in 2012 but it probably wont so it'll be changed to 2020 or something. People start freaking out over stuff and it spreads. I believe more what USGS site said, there wasnt as many seimograph stations back a few years ago than there is now, so it looks like more when actually it's not.

| Jesus said not to worry about it -- yet. Mark 13 As he was leaving the temple, one of his disciples said to him, "Look, Teacher! What massive stones! What magnificent buildings!" "Do you see all these great buildings?" replied Jesus. "Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down." As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John and Andrew asked him privately, "Tell us, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are all about to be fulfilled?" Jesus said to them: "Watch out that no one deceives you. Many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am he,' and will deceive many. When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains. " |

Interesting all the theories - just last night on our local news the meteorologist was saying that because of the colder-than-usual winter, there have been fewer than usual tornadoes this spring. For this time of year the normal is 180 tornadoes nationwide and so far this year there have only been 80. Lisa

Since my son is in college in Ca. I did read the latest article about the increase in earthquake activity in S. Ca. It is already past the last two years totals at this time of year and it's only April. So there is more activity than usual. If the "big one" comes I hope it's while he's on on summer break!
