Help! Cats nipples sore from nursing

Almost 3 weeks ago (this sunday) a stray gave birth to 6 kittens here at my house. She's a very good mother cat and the kittens are thriving beautifully!
They are all very fat from all the feedings LOL

The poor mother cats nipples and whole belly are so sore underneath from the kittens nursing and kneading on her. I have been applying a cold wet wash cloth to her nipples and she seems to enjoy that. What else can i do to ease the pain? She cries out a lot when they nurse now.

Can I trim the kittens nails?? I am scared to rub any ointment on there.

I "googled" and found this.....
Cats: nursing cat, kittens, loose stool
this is not normal. Cats nurse kittens every day and never get sores. If they are actual "open sores" I would think that your cat has mastitis and is probably in terrible pain. Have you noticed any loose stool from her? Vomiting? Not eating as much? I would definitely get her checked by a vet before it becomes too serious.
