Started new job!!

Ok, not sure I can call it a "new" job since I didn't have an "old" job, lol, but anyway, I started today.

I know a lot of you have careers, but I've always been a SAHM. I had one other full time job 13 years ago in a clinic, but that's it! Then things with Faith happened and these last months have been awful. But I'm back now!!

Anyway, it's just a cashier position at Family Dollar, and today was my first day. I have never worked in retail, but I think I'm gonna like it!

We live in a small town and it was fun all the people that came in that I haven't seen in so long, just because I've been holed up in this house!

It's only part time minimum wage, but it's a start.

SO, I had to be in at 7:30 this morning and worked till about 2..I came home and crashed!!! I couldn't believe how tired I was. lol Not good.......I'm sure I'll get used to it!

Just thought I'd share that with you all!!!

Congrats on the new job. You'll get used to the hours soon and won't be as tired.

Good for you! And, it isn't "just a cashier." Don't dismiss yourself or what you do.

You are a bright person. If you are honest and punctual, you'll be managing the place in no time. Be humble, polite and helpful. Learn the business, and look for opportunities to excel. You'll do great.

Cashiering is hard work. Get some comfy shoes and drink lots of water, rest on your breaks and you will be ready to go

Congratulations!

Thank you for all of your encouraging and kind words!! One can always count on the mc ladies.

I'm sure I will get used to the time on my feet. I'm going to get some of those skecher's fit shoes. I have a 50% off coupon from Chadwicks. That's a pretty good deal. I think they are ugly, but if they are comfy, who cares?

I only applied for this job on Sat. night online. Got called for an interview on Sun. morning, went in for interview on Mon, then started today. It's been a busy week for me!! I've holed my self up in this house all winter. It's been a rough several months, and my heart still aches for our Faithy, but it's time to move on, I can't do anything for her anymore and there are people that need me to be better mentally. You know??

Yes, I know exactly. I hope it continues to go well.

And, keep your eye out for other opportunities. If they hired you that fast, there could be management problems you won't want to deal with for long.

There are some issues with management, but is seems to be medical. The hiring process was a mess. That was very intuitive of you! I am definitely keeping my eye out for other opportunities.

No, no discounts! Can you believe it? I guess they do "employee specials" a couple times a year....

Congratulations and good luck! I'll be looking for part time work in the fall too. Not sure what will be available in my area. I've usually worked in medical office-related jobs and a little retail. Will see how it goes. I figure I'll update my resume over the summer, visit consignment shops to update my wardrobe, and make a list of places to apply. Hopefully I'll find something with the hours I need...
