It's 4 AM on Mother's Day....

and I'm up giving a nebulizer treatment to my youngest kiddo with severe asthma.

bummer! This year's Asthma and Allergy Season has been touted as one of the worst ever. Guess this household is living proof of that. Even Mother's Day wasn't a chance to relax!

Happy Mother's Day to everybody else in the trenches!

X

And just to clarify, I'm not griping, I'm able to see that glass half full... The treatment worked and the house is back quiet again. That relief is beyond measure!

One of the big differences between Mother's Day and Father's Day is that Moms still have to get up early and Dads get to sleep in!
http://abc.go.com/shows/the-middle/episode-guide?page=1
There was an episode of The Middle last Wednesday that went through all the differences between the two days.
All I can say is without Mothers who knows where the human race would be today? lol Everyone would be hungry, dirty, sick, and walking around with dumb looks on their faces wondering what to do next!!!

Happy Mother's Day to you Exhausted and to all the Moms, Aunts, Grandmas, Sisters, Wives and Friends who make the world go 'round!

Thanks Sweetie!
We ended up giving 4 updrafts throughout the day yesterday so we were at the Pediatrician's office at 8 AM this morning asking for a "work in".
Blessings happen! They had an 8:30 cancellation with our Ped. We were able to see him and consulted home care vs hospital at this point.

We're hanging by a thread here but at least we didn't have to go straight to Children's Hospital.

We've been in the hospital 2 of the past 5 years during April and May.
Allergy tested and hyper sensitive to ALL but three types of trees
and ALL grasses. Asthma triggers are at an all time high right now for us.
Remember that movie about a bubble boy. I wish I could do that to our house right now!

If I suddenly disappear for a couple of days without posting you'll know where I went!--

Hope your Mother's Day was the best ever too!

X

Good gracious, X! That is so hard... My sister dealt with similar situations when we were younger. It seems like she was always getting treatments or in the hospital. Asthma is super scary - you just never know how bad the attack is going to be. I will certainly keep you and your family in my prayers. Keep us posted!!!!!

any luck w/ allergy shots?

I am so thankful that neither of my kids have had allergies and/or asthma!
I just have the kid, at 7 y/o, who had his first kidney stone (on Thanksgiving!).

This season has been absolutely horrible! I don't think our nebulizer has ever been used this much! Hope your kiddo is feeling better

*double ouuwwiieee" on the kidney stone episode. At least we can get a bit of a reprieve immediately after an updraft. From personal experience (had one myself) Kidney stones are worse than giving birth and until I got strong meds in me, there wasn't a comfortable position I could withstand. Just typing about it makes me hurt... I will NEVER forget that experience.

But back to the allergy shots, We did all our Allergy testing/work ups through the Children's Hospital Allergy Clinic 5 and they never suggested or recommended shots. We were instead giving a daily med and told by a Doctor to keep this child in doors from February to October (yeah right nitwit!) I honestly thought the Dr. was joking and made a joke about that. He was SERIOUS. I left that exam room shaking my head. NO WAY!---- LOL! Nobody up there has ever mentioned shots, maybe it's because we're on the daily stuff?

Buckeye, I'd love to ask another neb user for a recommendation on a portable nebulizer - one for my purse. I found one I want for about $270 on the net but wanted to know if anyone has ever used one and if they like/trust it?
Do ya'll have one? We're looking at the Omron MicroAir Electronic Nebulizer Model NE-U22V.

Thanks for the support ya'll,
X

That's kind of funny! We just purchased the same one a few weeks ago. We had an Omron portable device before, and somehow (I still not sure how) it got run over in the drive way. We have used the new one a few times, and so far so good!

My Son doesn't do allergy shots either. They were not recommended. He is on a ton of allergy/asthma meds on a daily basis though. We were told he should not be outside any more then he need be from the beginning of spring to the end of fall. Have you tried a mask for when he is outside? We some washable ones, that he will wear if we are going to be outside for more then just going to the car, etc. and it has helped some.

You use a purse? I have found between everything I need for DS that I have to carry a backpack! I have a few nice purses that never get to leave me closet.

Hope your kiddo is feeling better!

I have a portable nebulizer, I bought it during the ice storm earlier this year (we were without electricity for 7 days). I have been very happy with it, I can't remember the brand and it's out in the truck. I can go check if you want to know the brand. It was whatever my insurance would pay for which the price was $270 or $280 somewhere around that price.

Thanks Penny and Nicole for the info. I'm pretty sure we're going to go ahead and ask to get one too. We never really feared power outages because of the generator in our Motorhome (refer to my avatar for pic).

I just think I'd feel more confident that we were covered away from home with a purse sized version.

The steroids are working better this week. We're seeing improvement every day!
Yay!
