Apple laptop????

Anyone have any information/advice/deals on Apple laptops? DD is going to college in Sept and is thinking she wants one. Seems that college students are picking these over conventional laptops chiefly because they withstand viruses better. I have to look into this alot more because the Apples are much pricier.

If she can wait, once she is a student Apple offers special prices for college students with ID and you can get them at great prices. Check with the bookstore on campus where she is going or with your local Apple store for info.

She is going to get her student ID at her college orientation in mid-June.

I would suggest contacting the IT department of the college where she'll be going to get their input and recommendations. The campus may have WiFi and perhaps can only use certain computers with it? (Does that make sense?)

We have an Apple, and from what I understand, the threat of viruses is lower with them. We got on a payment plan, so that made it more affordable (one more payment!!!).

The only problem we had was a hairline crack that occurred some months ago down near where the right hand typically may rest, and this is a known manufacturing problem that is easily remedied in (from what I hear) 3 days. You call, a box is sent to you, you send the laptop in, and it's fixed and sent back post haste.

Also...the IT department at the college may be able to guide you on what components to order for the hard drive, what software to include in your package, etc.

I broke down and got the MacBook Pro...it is my first Apple PC and was a little intimidated by it at first...but now I absolutely love it...They are pricey but well worth the money in my opinion...and sorry I didn't get one sooner...I do use my for school and the organization and programs on it are great...I am now trying to convince my husband to buy me a Apple desktop...LOL...eventually he will crack and buy it...

Just to update those looking for laptops... I did get my DD an apple laptop. Until Sept 7, when purchasing an Apple laptop, you get a free 8 gb ipod (after online rebate). This deal is through the Apple education store for students/faculty. Also, there is an online rebate for a printer up to $100. We got one of those, too. I thought that was a pretty nice incentive.
