| I Can't Believe this Happened at School
This is about my youngest sister's boyfriend's niece. I can't believe they let him on the grounds of the school just to wander around. In my day and my son's day if you brought the lunch to school you'd leave it in the office and they would deliver it. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/37508906...o_bay_area_ca/

This is really sad. The schools in my area have offices that are quite a distance from the front door. They do have cameras and signs that require everyone to stop in the office first. I have always felt that the way a school should be set up is that the office door or a window should be right next to the front door or between double doors that are locked during the day. The secretary at my daughters elementary school is pretty strict. If she doesn't know a person there is no way they are going to walk the halls. Anyone, can walk into a school claiming to be a relative, babysitter etc.. Pretty scary! |

When oldest DS started Kindergarten in Denton, TX---you had to walk into the entrance and it was self-contained bullet proof glass. You then had to check in w/ the office staff, get a visitor pass, and then be escorted by staff wherever you went. Time consuming? Yes. Overkill? maybe--but I don't think so. Now, when we got here? They were pretty laid-back. And in the spring/early fall the schools have all the doors and windows opened. Anyone could walk in. I had no than 3 occasions that I walked into the front door to check oldest DS out early, and wasn't stopped by staff, wasn't asked what I was doing just walking down the halls..... I had to throw a little hissy fit w/ the Superintendent of schools insisting that they tighten up security. My hissy fit was after DS and one of his little buddies wandered away from school to go look for gold.... I'm still not terribly impressed with the security measures at our schools. It only takes ONE time. I'd rather schools be overly protective than any one's child being that ONE time!

Have you guys seen the story from Portland about Kyron Horman? He disappeared in school. Supposedly his step mom last saw him going down the hall towards his class. I have my doubts as neither she nor the father have spoken publicly as most parents do when a child vanishes. I am praying for his safe return.

Edited: I could definitely be wrong. I just read that he was supposed to be in the talent show and the stepmom (who volunteered at the school a lot) didn't show up to the talent show. Why wouldn't she go?
