Let's talk about ourselves!--What is your favorite dessert?

What is your favorite dessert? Does it have any memorable experience for you?

My favorite dessert is strawberry shortcake. We used to make it all summer when I was growing up.

I guess ONE of my favorites would be a chocolate cake with peanut butter icing. My Mom would make one everytime our family went camping. It earned the nickname "the camping cake". (how original huh?) So now when I get hungry for it, I say I'm going to make a camping cake. lol I loved camping when we were kids and my parents did all the work!

A really nice thick rich piece of cheesecake. If it's a plain cheesecake, I like cherry topping on it, if it's a chocolate cheesecake...well, nothing is needed on top.

No memories attached...just really love cheesecake. lol

I'm a chocolate person. DH is a fruit person. I think my all time favorite dessert is the Chocolate Bag Dessert at McCormick & Schmicks. OMG - it is so good...and one of few DH will split with me.

Otherwise as far as everyday desserts, it's too hard to pick just one. I have a definate sweet tooth!

My favorite dessert associated with memories is apple pie. My grandma used to have them when I would visit them during the summer and holidays. We didn't have much in the way of desserts or sweets when I was growing up, so that was definitely a treat. I still have a hard time passing up apple pie.

As far as desserts I like as an adult... key lime pie is oh so yummy. I like the cold, tart, sweet combo of it. I am also a HUGE fan of cheesecake, but I only like plain. I will top it with fresh strawberries, but that would be it. Finally, I recently had these Mountain Dew Apple Dumplings and they are my new favorite. YUM!

This.

It's my chocolate ice cream fudge cake. I only make it once a year (usually for a Christmas dessert) and it is soooo good.

Chocolate cake, vanilla ice cream, home made hot fudge sauce, whipped cream and cherries. Easy to make.

I love most sweets. It's easier to list what I don't like:
- Cake, unless it's torte
- Cherry or apple pie
- Indian desserts like gulab jamun
- Tapioca
- Italian ricotta-filled desserts like cannoli
- Flan

My most hated dessert of all is cheesecake. Erg! Just typing it almost makes me gag!

That's just WRONG! How can anyone hate cheesecake? I've never heard of anyone that hated cheesecake before in my entire life! HA!

I'll have a piece of that chocolate ice cream cake now please! That's my favorite dessert I do believe! I would say hot fudge sundae over chocolate cake but that cake pictured pretty much sums that all up! YUM!

Yeah, I hate all sour milk products - yogurt, sour cream, cream cheese, ricotta cheese. You know what's even weirder? I hate raw tomatoes.

OK. Don't mean to hijack the thread. Back to favorite desserts.

A real chocolately cake. Or chocolate ice cream. I loved the oreo pie (or choc. cream pie) from Baker's square (restaurant), but they closed the ones by me.

I had to think about this one for a bit. It's so hard to have just one favorite dessert. I love chocolate chip cookes fresh from the oven. I love yellow cake with homemade chocolate icing. I love real cheesecake made in a springform pan. Apple pie or cobbler is another favorite. It's about impossible to put my finger on just one favorite dessert. Carrot cake with pineapple, raisins and nuts with yummy creme cheese frosting.

Oh gee! I can only pick one? LOL

I absolutely love a good thick New York style cheesecake the airy French one I am not so fond of.

So I guess my favorites would be cheesecake and chocolate cake with thick rich chocolate fudge frosting.

That being said my favorite "memory" dessert is Lemon Dainties a lemon bar cookie that my great Aunt used to make. She made all kinds of bars, pies, cookies and cakes and that was my favorite.

MMMMM I love them all just about. No coconut though.
BUT they have to be cold. I like cake even slightly frozen. I make s'mores at home, melt the marshmallow in the micro, build my s'more and then pop it in the freezer until frozen before I eat it.
I once got a brownie with caramel and fudge on it at Borders and they microwaved it before they gave it to me! I was nice and just asked for a box, took it home and popped it in the freezer.

German Chocolate cake, white cake with white mountain frosting and coconut all over the outside, carrot cake with pecans and without any fruit, with cream cheese icing, vanilla creme brulee, pecan pie. Any of these can be a favorite depending on my mood and the time of year.

I had my first German Chocolate cake when I was about 11 or 12. My best friend's mother made it and I just loved it. Jump 35 years and I decided to make one because the store bought just didn't do it for me. I had lost contact with this family 25 years prior but the mother was still listed in the phone book. I called her out of the blue and explained who I was and what I wanted. There was a long silence and then she started laughing. She said, "All you have to do is look on the box of the German Chocolate package." Sure enough, that's all I had to do. Best cake ever.

Peanut butter and chocolate is always a winning combination in my book. I am not a fan of cheesecake, but I do understand the attraction.

As for camping. We recently went camping and the oatmeal cookies were tragically sat upon. We did have apples and peaches. So, we sliced those and cooked them together with some butter and the cookie crumbles over the open dinner fire. That dessert will be talked about for a very long time!

MMMMM sounds like you made crisp!!!
I like to make it using canned pie filling and cake mix, but know some people top it with oatmeal.
Easiest dessert to make ever!
We take a can of pie filling and spread it into a 9X11 pan. Top that with cake mix. Just cake mix don't do anything to it. Just sprinkle the cake mix over the pie filling. You can use white or yellow, I use butter recipe yellow Then either cut up a stick of butter and put the slices on top of the cake mix or you can melt a stick of butter and pour over the cake mix. Cook at 350 for 20 or so minutes, until the top is crispy and getting brownish.
MMMMMM delicious!

We aren't great cooks. But we figured it was a crisp. We called it " camping crisp s**t." Hopefully, someone will sit on the oatmeal cookies if we ever go camping with cookies, apples, and peaches again

Serendipity. Don't you just imagine that there are many many recipes that have been discovered by situations like this?
