Its very hard to cure with antibodics. dont let anyone touch it with bare hands ,wear gloves.. wash hands ALOT! I work with it all the time and have never gotten it.

There are antibiotics against it. MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) is resistant to penicillins but is highly contagious. They will more than likely keep you on it for 2 weeks and recheck it a few times in the interim. MRSA can also be an airborne so if anyone at home is changing bandages they need gloves and should be careful to dispose of all bandages and gloves in a grocery bag that gets immediately tied off and sent to trash containers.

I have seen good results and bad in my clinic but results are very dependent on care and your response to medications.

Be aware of any other abcesses you might develop in other areas as it can do that. Just make sure you follow up with your health care provider and report any changes.

If you have not had a consult w/ an infectious disease Dr., I highly recommend it.

Depending on the severity of your diagnosis, you may need to have IV antibiotics every 12 hours (they put a port in, and then run a bag of IV fluids in every 12 hours or so. Not in-patient at the hospital, can be done at home w/ home health or through your family practice provider's clinic)

Nasty stuff, and it is very contagious.

A friend of mine is dealing with it now, with her mom. I am pretty sure she has had it for a few years now, and it is in her bone. VERY difficult to cure.

I'll have to ask her to be sure I am telling you correctly.
