Lisa sweetie always I have been using the same groomer a really long time and she does a wonderful job on my shelties as you know they have long hair and need to be a cut and groomed a certain way. I once a long time ago had a groomer to cut my Bambi's hair sooooooooo short nothing in the back and all the hair off her legs horrible shelties are mean't to have to long hair, it is alot of up keep with them, but they are beautiful. So yes I do tip always to Amy she is so good with them so gentle. Peace. Catherine

Absolutey I tip! ($5/dog, more sometimes) A superior dog groomer is like a hair stylist, and I want to keep mine happy as long as we have big dogs we can't bathe at home. My groomer has had to deal w/my late St. Bernard mix that was a giant weenie about bathing, she more than earned her tips. My other dog, a Malamute/Husky mix is very hard to bathe due to his double coat, and I am more than happy to have someone like her to do a superior grooming job, treat my dogs & well and make them livable again. |

Momziller I totally agree with you, for a truly large breed, it must be very difficult to bathe and groom. On a personal note when I go to have my hair dyed, yes I said dyed lol, its take a total of about 2 hours. Between the dye, some highlights, then washing it out, then cutting my hair and then style and blow dry straight I have been giving my girl Tori 15 dollars, after all she worked on my hair for 2 hours. Peace. Catherine

Thank you for all of your thoughts. I know that many people don't even think to tip their dog groomer. It just doesn't occur to them to do it. I equate it to a hair stylist...I always tip my hair stylist. Others think that they are paying way too much for the groom as it is and don't tip. I can understand that. Anyway, I think that $5 is a very nice tip. I know that I would be happy with it. It's funny because I find that the people who tip the most are people who just come in for a nail trim or buff which costs between $10-$15. The anal glands are included with the bath where I work. Also, most people don't realize that the bather works very long washing and drying a dog. They don't make nearly as much as groomers. People don't give them any kind of tip...just the groomer. Sad because they do alot of hard work as well. ~Lisa

This is an interesting question. I've never tipped our dog groomer. Our dog is part chow and part lab (I think?) and he has very sensitive skin. The last 2 times we've taken him, he's ended up with a "hot spot" which ends up getting infected. So, after spending $85 on the grooming and shaving, we spend $300 at the vet. So, for the last year, I've done it myself. However, I guess I will have to reconsider if we take him again or if we get another dog at a later date. I don't want to be cheap, but $85 seems like a lot of money to be paying for grooming.

We tip $5 for a $30-$35 dog grooming. I guess I feel that if I'm tipping my hairdresser for my hair, I should do the same for my dog. Besides he's worth it!

My groomer. who does everything herself in her home shop, no bather, charged me $65 to do 2 extra large, double coated, northern breed dogs. That's at least 30-50 bucks cheaper than all other resources here, and she's the best of the best, I'd rather try to bathe my dogs myself (an near impossibility) than take them to someone else. I was a newbie in this neighborhood nearly 10 years ago and since I found my groomer I've referred a lot of business to her, and she's told me many times how grateful she was for that, especially when she left her old employer to start her own grooming business. If other groomers around here knew how many clients I've referred to my groomer than my name would be mud in that circle ;-) Don't forget to share your groomer, it's a tip that keeps on giving if it brings repeat business to your groomer. My groomer has more business than she can handle at this point, so I call and ask her if she can take any new clients before I tell someone about her. |

That is a great price and it was so nice of you to refer her to other people. That's why I try to always do a good job...even when I know the person doesn't tip. I figure if they are pleased, they may send other clients to me. This is a good way to build up your business. I do believe that word of mouth is the best advertising. ~Lisa |
