Anyone work for an Insurance Co? Car Accident Question

I was in a car accident last night, and I am pretty sure my car is totaled. I called my insurance company once I was released from the er and the guy took my info and said an adjuster would call me sometime today between 9-5. Does anyone know what exactly will happen next? My coverage includes towing and a rental car, so I know that the tow bill will be covered, as for the rental car, do they send one to me or do I call say Budget and get it myself and they reimburse me? Does anyone know how long the process of a claim takes? Sorry for all the questions, I am just really sore ad have all these questions going through my head at the moment. TIA

I'm so sorry that happened! Thankfully, it sounds like you weren't hurt too badly. I don't work for an insurance company, but we were in a wreck last weekend in route to Galveston to board the cruise ship for our vacation. Towing was directly billed to the insurance company, so that was nice. As far as the rental, our insurance company has a deal with Enterprise, so we waited to deal directly with them. We could have gotten a car from another organization, but we would have had to pay for it, then be reimbursed. Setting it up through them, we were able to get a discounted rate so we could get a nicer car as well as having it billed directly to the insurance company. As far as the claim goes, it will depend on when the adjuster gets there to check out the vehicle. That was done for us within about 2 days. Thank goodness they are able to repair our vehicle. It's paid off and only has about 50,000 miles so I was NOT excited about having to buy something new and have car payments again. Yuck. Hope it all works out for you!!!!!

I'm glad you guys are all right. I'm with Kim you should talk to the insurance company before renting a car they might have an account with one of the companies. There also might be limits on the allotment and you don't want to end up putting out $$$ from your own pocket.

We did, but it was definitely challenging. There were no rental cars within 100 miles of our accident location. Thankfully, my sister was able to come pick us up and help us reach the port.

Update on our situation - just got a call from the insurance company... Additional damage was discovered during the initial teardown phase, so they have totaled our truck. Bummer!!!!!!
