What kind of dishwasher do you have?

Do you like it?
I'm searching for a new one and they all seem to have some good reviews and bad reviews. It"s hard to decide what to buy.
thanks!

I have a GE QuietPower 3 and we have decided we are done with GE appliances. It's not that quiet and it squeaks which is so annoying! It's only 3 years old.

I haven't researched them but I think if I were to buy one now, I'd go for a KitchenAid.

60 year old model - still going strong. One of a kind though. It's called my husband.

(Seriously. We never use ours, so I don't know what it is. We store food in it. We call it the pantry.)

No love for the GE profile. low energy use = less water, doesn't heat what little water it used enough. I pretty much had to wash the dishes before putting them in the dw, which defeated the purpose of low energy use

We hate our GE too. Not very efficient, and tends to be noisy. Does that help any?

Bosch and I LOVE it! When we bought our house (it was new), our builder had a GE in here and we got rid of it about 3 months into it and got the Bosch. The GE was loud and didn't clean well (IMO). My cousin owns an appliance repair business so anytime I want to know what appliance to buy, he'll give me his opinion based on his experience. The Bosch was pricey but SO worth it. You can't even hear it when it's on. We've had the Bosch for 4.5 years now. My mom also has a Bosch

This Bosch you have, can you actually put dirty dishes in it and get clean. I'm so sick of having to wash my dishes first and then put them in the dishwasher...HA...but seriously though. You shouldn't have to rinse them off first...it's a waste of water!

I've had a bosch for 3 years now and love it. It's very quiet which was a priority for us since our house has an open floor plan. It cleans great (even when it's been overloaded). I don't rinse my dishes before hand. As a matter of fact my owners manual says not to pre-rinse. I've put glass baking dishes with stuck on food in it and they've come out clean.
HTH.

Bosch

I agree with Bosch...had ours for two years. It's so quiet, my Dh and sons have opened the door while it's running because they didnt notice it was on. I dont prerinse, I just remove solid food with a napkin or paper towel as the model I have does not have the food 'disposal' in it. I have a basic model, three settings for quick wash, regular wash and pots/pans wash (Power Scrub Plus). It also has a rinse and hold cycle, but I've never used that.

I have the stainless interior, and hard water, so I run a dishwasher cleaning product (like LemiShine) through it about every other month, gets it shiny and new looking in one use.

I love the Bosch brand so much after using this dishwasher, I am going to replace my range and refrigerator with Bosch products as they 'die out'.

Another vote for Bosch! Mine will be 2 years old in November, and it's still awesome. One of the features I like best about my dishwasher is that heating elements are not visible in the bottom of the machine. I can't tell you how many pieces of Tupperware were ruined in my other machine. I also like the sanitizer feature, lets me know my dishes are germ free. I have no regrets about spending the extra to get this machine.

I have read that Bosch dishwashers do not have a heating element, that it dries by condensation. Do you Bosch owners having any problems with the dishes drying. Also the Bosch do not have a food disposal or a self cleaning filter. How often do you need to clean the filter and is it hard to do?
I'm trying to decide between a Bosch or Kitchen aid right now.
thanks for everyone's help!

The trick to drying your dishes is simple. When it's finished with it's cycle, it will "beep". When it beeps, you simply open it just a couple of inches (I slide the top rack out about an inch to "hold" the door open. That lets the steam escape and you get spotless dishes. It takes a bit longer to dry but nothing serious.

Mine doesn't have a food disposal. I don't "pre rinse". I simply remove large pieces of food and put it in. Once I empty the dishwasher, I check to see if there are any large food pieces stuck on the filter (in the bottom middle section) and if so, pull them out. Doesn't happen often. Usually it's a piece of corkscrew pasta I missed or something. I have never "cleaned" the filter beyond that.

I think it's important to read the manual. My mom had complained about water on her dishes from her Bosch but never read that you are supposed to open it to let the steam out (that's how the dishes dry). It was a "duh" moment LOL and no problems ever since!

I have no problem with my dishes drying. Usually they are dry within an hour of the machine finishing and I don't have spotting problems either.
There is a basket on the bottom of mine that collects any food that doesn't get broken down, but I haven't had any food in mine. I scrape off any big food chunks and put the dishes in the washer. The machine is built to breakdown food extremely small so you don't need a disposal within it. It is very east to take out and clean the basket. It is recommended you clean the basket once a month.
Again I love my bosch.

I was going to say the same thing, sort of. But I'm only 43. But yep I do the dishes. I do put them in the dishwasher to dry but I wash them. I can do a huge sinkfull in about 10 minutes, no dishwasher is that fast. And yes I do get them clean, I worked in food service for over 10 years so I know how to wash dishes.

Ours is an older Kenmore that you hook up to the sink and it works extremely well. We got it on Craigslist a couple of years ago. We don't have space for an installed dishwasher.

I do what sexysmurf does, open the door and let the steam out if I am here when it's done washing...or if not, the dishes are fine after an hour or so. There is a food trap/filter on the bottom that I rinse out once a week or so, but I've never had solid food in there as I scrape the solids off the dishes before putting them in.
HTH!

I've been a Kitchenaid fan for a long time, but my next dw will be a Bosch drawer dw if KA doesn't come up with a drawer dw as good as the Bosch ones, or a Caloric from a restaurant equipment sale. Bosch is a superbly designed/engineered machine. I've seen other large families with Caloric dw's they picked up at restaurant equipment sales and I love em- they do an entire load of dishes in about 10+ mins, something that is a consideration for a large family that seems to have a never ending stream of dishes needing washing but not enough dw, sink, or counter space to wash it all at one time, or at least in a reasonable amt of time. With the Calorics several loads can be washed in an hour's time, about the time it takes most dw's to do a load (excluding heated drying feature times).
