I'm really NOT one of "those people". I did have 16 cats at one time because I didn't learn how to say no to the neighbors up in Massachusetts that brought me stray cats. This is not to say I kept all the strays they brought me. I found homes for at least 10... maybe more. We've lost 6 of the 16 due to illness and old age since we moved to Florida.
On to the dogs. Four weeks ago yesterday I was heading out to check out my yard. It was around 6 pm. Well I noticed a rainbow over the grove across the street so I ran back inside to grab my camera. When I came out I couldn't believe my eyes. Running down the middle of the street were two of the cutest dogs I've ever seen.
While we don't live on a major highway, our street is busy enough. I began to follow them and call out but they just kept moving. Of course a car finally appeared so I stuck myself out in the road and made them stop. Most people were thoughtful but there was one idiot woman on a cell phone who just kept going.
Finally 2 people in two different cars stopped and helped me catch the dogs. We talked about what to do and neither one of them could take them so I volunteered. We also had people from another neighborhood show up and they said they had been seeing these dogs roaming their neighborhood for at least a week. Why they didn't call animal services is beyond me.
With all my cats, I thought the smartest thing to do would be leaving them in our fenced in backyard. Then a thunderstorm began to move in so I got the cats off the porch and put them in there. Then the thunder got loud and the little female began to cry.

I crossed my fingers and let them in the house. From the first moment they didn't bother the cats and the cats just looked at them like they were rather funny looking felines.
The next day I brought them to the Vet. Surely such nice dogs were someone's pets. They had no collars or tags but I was hoping they had been chipped. Nope. I called the SPCA. They're tied into many other shelters by computer but there were no reports of any dogs matching their description missing. I called our local animal control people. Another dead end. I checked the local paper and Craig's List and continued to do so for about 10 days. Nothing. Our Vet and the neighbors all feel they were dumped in our area.
To my surprise I had starting falling in love with these two. I've only had one dog in my life and it really wasn't my dog. It belonged to my Ex. When there were no hits on who owned these dogs, I took them in.
Now they are micro chipped. Their shots are up to date although that turned out to me a mini nightmare. The female had an allergic reaction to one of the shots. She came out of it OK but it was quite a scare.
They are my constant companions and we named them Rose and Jack after the characters in Titanic.

Here they are.

Rose

Jack

Rose playing at our town's dog park.

Jack out in the backyard last night.

Rose after we cut her down due to all the mats she had.

Jack hiding because he knows he's not suppose to be in the garden.
I wish I had thought to take a picture when I first saw them. It was like the Almighty was telling me something with the two of them appearing in front of that rainbow.
