Is This a Tad Juvenile?

My kids' high school band is doing very well this year and will be competing on the state level, first time ever! We're all very proud.
This morning I get an email from one of the band moms who is fairly involved that they want to put "Good Luck" signs at all the kids' houses, and "T-P the house"; asking for volunteers and toilet paper. (I had to reread that several times, as I was surprised at what I was reading). I sent her an email back and basically said that the signs were a great idea, but I'm not so sure about the T-P part. I should mention that the kids are not doing this; they will be at band practice, so the parents are doing this.

As thrilled as we are for the band, I'm thinking that the other parents are not going to like this one bit, and it's kind of juvenile, isn't it? When I see this sort of thing, I'm pretty sure kids are behind it, right? Am I being a prude about this?

I think the signs are a great idea, but I don't like the t.p. idea at all.
What does t.p.'ing a house have to do with the band doing good? When I see a house that's been t.p.'d, I think that someone in that house has done something to p_ss someone off.
What a mess to clean up and don't mention the waste of money.

I agree - signs are a great idea. TPing not so much. I'd be a little PO'd if I had to clean that up.

I agree with the other ladies--signs, yes; TP, no! What a horrible mess for the parents to clean up especially if it's raining.
A better idea might be to put up posters in the trees in the yard so that the neighbors will know and show support.
I would be very annoyed to have to clean up TP especially if I had things to do before getting ready for my child's state band competition.
Come on! Juvenile is right-that mom must not have a job, a house to clean, or other children to worry about. Give me a break!

Personally, I think the good luck yard signs are also a waste of money. I'd rather have a yard sign made with my child's name on it and the school band name indicating that my child is a member of said band.

Last school year when the high school basketball team was leaving town to go the state playoffs the buses took a long route out driving by as many schools as possible and those schools had their students out with good luck signs. That meant more to the team than a good luck sign in the yard and showed such community support.

Forget the TP'ing. I don't think it's done because someone is mad at someone else. I think it's done just for fun but it is an incredible waste of money and a pain in the rear to clean up.

The consensus is Bad Idea! I knew it sounded very immature and I just know it will not be received well by parents, even though they're all so thrilled for their kids. I am just trying to picture grown women going around house to house doing this. The picture looks pathetic. I would be more understanding if the kids decided on their own to do this.
Thanks for the replies!

Not only is this juvenile...it's EXTREMELY JUVENILE! I hope they are prepared for the clean up afterwards! I swear, I'm convinced that adults are regressing back to childhood for some reason. I have never in my life seen such crazy mixed up grown ups doing their best to act like they are teenagers again! It's mind boggling!

If I knew who TPd my home, I would call the police and register a formal complaint. I would have whoever did it pay for the clean-up. Wet TP stays on trees and bushes for a very long time. It is vandalism IMO.

It's only appropriate if the band plays all their songs through armpit farts. I'd be going above the volunteer's head and making a complaint to the principal about this request.

So Crittles1, whatever happened with this? Did they go through with the TP or did they do something different. What did the other parents have to say about it?

Thank goodness the other parents this was presented to saw this as inappropriate and juvenile, so negative feedback prevailed! We did yard signs for each band kid and that went over very well with the kids.
At semi state, the band ranked 12 (top 10 go on to state), so they did not progress to state, but did very well. We were so proud of them, and more importantly saved ourselves total humiliation by not TP'ing anyone's yard!

I can just picture a bunch of parents TP'ing people's houses, lol. Glad it worked out! Congratulations to the band, even though they didn't go to state, 12 is still pretty darn good!
