I got out of here around 8 am yesterday morning and headed for the reserve. I like the fact that the sun is coming up at a reasonable hour.
There's a large intersection just before you turn onto the street the reserve is located off of. At that intersection there are some huge street lights. I have no idea how tall those things are but they just go on and on. The state placed platforms on the tops of them and they usually attracted Ospreys. This morning they attracted something much better!
That turned out to be the highlight of the day and I hadn't even gotten to the park yet.
There were birds every where at the reserve. After the summer and not seeing much, this was fabulous. Some of the birds I could identify, many I could not.
Here's a ??? I think it's a phoebe.
I think this is a blue-gray gnat-catcher.
Yellow-rumped warbler.
Female red-winged blackbird. There were hundreds of them at the park yesterday.
Another ??? I've since found out that this is most likely a yellow-billed cuckoo. My first ever sighting of this bird!
No doubt here.... what big teeth you have.
I think it was doing a turtle impersonation.
I also saw 2 more bald eagles in the park.
What a great morning but, man oh man, when I got home, my feet were killing me.
