First off hon sorry to hear you need to have the surgery that in its self can make anyone nervous and cause upset and headaches. Now for me as a person who does suffer from migranes not sure if yours are migranes I do take imitrex which is the only thing that helps me. I have the pills and the nose spray. There are times I feel side effects not always and the side effects have become lessen probably due to the fact I have been on the medication for awhile now. My migranes vary. I can go 2 months with out any and then in one month I can get 5 like right now I had one saturday one yesterday and one today. As far as Excedrin goes no way I could take the whole bottle would do nothing for me literally. I know for me my migranes come from my nerves and when I am under stress or any personal issues going on in my life. I let things get the best of me. I dearly try to let things run off my shoulder however it is not always that easy. I will say this 6 years ago I had my appendix taken out it took all day in the emergency room, all the tests, the needles, the noises, the doctors, the waiting, I could not eat or drink, the lights my head was pounding I literally thought it would explode, however once they took me into the operation room and put me to sleep and I woke up headache was completely gone it was all nerves. Hon please feel better good luck with the operation and best healthy wishes and keep us posted. Peace. Catherine

Thank you so much for your response Catherine. I am truly hoping that when I am in the recovery room I wake up and discover the headache gone! I can deal with other pain, but not headaches. I am sorry you experience migranes and understand the pain you go through. Mine have not been diagnosed as migranes, docs are still in limbo. It could just be the anxiety of the surgery. Time will tell. I really can't wait to get everything over and done with. I have put this surgery off for a while now, but now it's time for me. I have a better outlook on life today. I am going to avoid any foods which may cause acid reflux and headaches. I am going to 'force' myself to make dinner in the am (spaghetti) do one load of laundry and straighten one room. I am taking baby steps. There really is no logical explanation why I can't do this stuff prior to surgery that is why I think it is anxiety. One aspect i did research is that the medication I take for acid reflux can also cause the headaches and dizziness. I have a call into my doc to see if I could be having an allergic reaction and if the meds need to be changed. I have been on ranitidine for a bit and wonder if I have become immune. Regardless, here's to wishing myself luck in getting some things done around the house so hubby doesn't have to step in before he really has to. Thank you so much for your kind words. |

You TOTALLY explained me 2 weeks ago!! To a "T"! Yes, it is definitely anxiety. I was like that for almost 2 weeks, once I found out I needed the hysterectomy. Last Monday the 8th I had a LAVH. To say I was a mess was a complete understatement. Thankfully, my nurse saw that as I was preparing for surgery and administered "2 glasses of wine"! (I have no idea what she gave me!) From the time she administered it through my IV, I don't remember a thing. Suddenly I woke-up in a regular room....surgery done, headache gone and feeling wonderful! I haven't had a headache since, either!! It's pure anxiety!! If you have ANY questions or need a shoulder, I'm here for you. Trust me, with just having gone through it, I feel your pain! HUGS.....your going to do great!! |

Again I am pretty sure it is all about aniexty and worry which can bring on any type of headaches sometimes I say to myself literally I wish I could be like some people and totally have a clear head lol and not worry about a thing and let things just roll off my shoulders not me . It is my make-up and my personality it was there from the beginning I could go back to being five years old and remember the aniexty and fears and worries. Of course over the years I have gotten better you just have too m but there were periods in my life where I wished I could just stay in bed under the covers and not deal with life but that is not life. In the end I sincerely wish you all the best health wise and please keep us posted peace. Catherine

Thank you all so much...I too really think it is anxiety....more so than ever. Ran into a glitch during hospital pre-registration today. Surgery is on hold until I get clearance from cardiology on Friday. My EKG was abnormal. Since the birth of my twins, I have been diagnosed with a murmor, enlarged heart and palpitations. All of which is just under a watchful eye w/out any medication. I am now wondering if I have high BP. It is a tad high at home when I test, but has always been normal at the doc office. Ah heck, I don't know... Will update you on Friday if we are truly going forward. Have a great day. |

My recovery has been incredible! I had very little pain (re; only took 2 Percocets when I first got home on Tuesday-which was only because of the bumpy car ride home) at the beginning. Yesterday I went for my check-up and my Dr was shocked at my recovery. He's given me till the Monday after Thanksgiving and then, I resume my normal activity!! I'm so excited!!! I had SO much anxiety over this and, truthfully, there was no reason for it! I'd do it again today if I had to!!! A dear friend of mine shared this website Hysterectomy Support Discussions, Before Hysterectomy, After Hysterectomy, Recovery - HysterSisters and it has been a HUGE source of information! Two things I would recommend, besides the obvious stretchy pants, are a Pillow Pet (it wraps around the abdomanal area just wonderfully) and nylon granny panties (keeps everything tight in the abdomanal area too)!! Again, if you need me, I'm here!! BEST WISHES to you with the EKG. PLEASE keep us updated! HUGS! |

I am a few days late to the party - how are you feeling? I had headaches too prior to my total hysterectomy in 1999. I didn't know if it was the fact I had so many problems leading to needing the surgery, or because I was anemic. Do you know what your hemoglobin is? Normal is 11-12 for women and mine was really low, 7-8. My head would hurt so badly I couldn't stand it. Luckily, I have a doctor who is nor afraid to prescribe a narcotic, so I could get relief. There was another time I suffered headaches, and that was after I had kidney stones. I had a procedure to remove one and in addition to knocking me out, they also did a spinal block. Some of the spinal fluid leaked and I woke up in recovery with the worst headache I've ever had. For about 2 months, the headaches would come and go. Not that there is a good time for a headache, but they always seem to come at the wrong time. In the middle of the day when it was hard to take anything that would make me sleepy, or when I knew I had to drive somewhere. I tried taking the OTC migraine medicine but the caffeine made me jittery. I hope you feel better soon
