Anyone live in or near Lancaster, PA

In a few weeks I will be moving to PA near Lancaster to be closer to my brother. However, my sister in law is not a couponer or a thrifty shopper so she isn't much help with telling me about the stores out there and their coupon policies, or other little stores that always seem to have good deals. Does anyone here live in the area and can you please tell me about the stores and other things you think I should know. TIA

Well I can only give my experience from having vacationed there so many times I believe there Giant Stores which are sister companies I believe with Waldbaums and I also know that, they have alot of these Wawa stores which I love, because they have so many of those lovely non-ss coupon tear pads. The ones for snapple and gatorade and so on. Lancaster is a beautiful place some of the farms are so beautiful. Keep us posted and good luck. Holiday blessings. Catherine

They do have Giant Markets, as the lady above mentioned and Weis markets. Both about the same. I am not from the Lancaster area, but visit there whenever I can, as I love the area. I am Northwest of Harrisburg, and think the stores are basically the same as far as coupons go. In my area Both stores double coupons to .50 for $1. At Giant they usually only double 1 of the same and single the rest. At Weis, I can usually double at least 3 of the same. Weis prices, I find to be a little higher unless it is on sale. You need to apply for a card to show to get the sale prices. They also have Targets and Walmarts.
then alot of smaller stores. I can't think of the one near Shady Maple restaurant, but if you ever get the chance, eat there. It is the best food around. If you go on your birthday, with someone else, You get your meal free. That way it doesn't cost so much for 2. Hope you will enjoy it there. I love to just watch the Amish in their buggies. Many outlets too! I love the farmland, as I am at the edge of woodland with snakes-UGH!

BB's in Q'ville

If you want REALLY good bargains and don't mind an occassional bump or bruise on your box or can of food -- Head over to BB's in Quarryville. It is run by the Amish and they get lots of overruns from other stores, stuff nearing expiration, bent boxes and stuff like that. I don't think they take coupons but the prices are so cheap you don't need them. Quarryville is very close to Lancaster: this tells you a little more -- BB's Grocery Outlet - Off the Beaten Path

Thank you all for the responses Catherine, thank you so much, I forgot all about the Wawa's, maybe because the stores that are near me now here in NJ never seem to have any tear pads. But I will make sure to check out the ones in PA

RobinG, I love the Shady Maple, I always go there when I viist my brother, I also like their grocery store, but I don't think they double coupons

Rpasek, I will have to check that store out. Thank you for the info.

You will be very happy in Lancaster. My dd went to college there and my bf lives there. Every time I visit from NY I bring a cooler and stock up on everything. Everything is cheaper, even the gas. My favorite place is Sharp Shopper in Leola and one in Ephrata. Check the expiration dates carefully, the items are ridiculously inexpensive. Then the farm stands will have inexpensive fruits, vegetables and flowers (better and fresher than any supermarket).
I love Lancaster, enjoy!

I know Rose I love all the fresh fruit and produce that comes straight from the farms, there is nothing like it for sure. I also love the huge goodwill store that is located right on lincoln highway right by Dutch Wonderful Land. Finally I also love the farms any time of year. Hey Maryann if you get lucky with Wawa and any coupon tear pads I would love to trade for them, always looking for non ss drink coupons. Finally what am I thinking I love love the restaurant the Cracker Barrel their breakest food, and soups and corn bread and biscuits and fresh veggies sooooo delicious enjoy . Catherine
