I think in our economy it's not so much that they are helping grow jobs, but are at least keeping a few more employed. If employers are suddenly hit with higher taxes, they'll likely have to cut somewhere. If they cut staff, people lose jobs. If they cut back on paper orders and conserve by sending e-bills instead of USPS-delivered ones, somebody at Dunder-Mifflin will lose a job. Hopefully it will be Dwight. |

Anna I am with you and blame both parties for the state our ecomony is in right now, I sincerely do not know whom to trust and fear it will only getting worse. Especially at this time of the year, when there are so many people who are unemployed, who at times cannot even afford to put a meal on their table, let alone offer their children some christmas presents. Only time will tell for the future it things will turn around for the best for all. Blessings in this holiday season 2010. Catherine

Am I caught up in semantics? To "create more jobs" means new jobs that were not available before.

Anna, now that you say that, I do think I know what it is they mean. There is evidence to suggest that some businesses and wealthy folks have held off hiring people because they knew the tax consequence they was going to face in the near future was uncertain. They didn't want to expand if they were within a year or two of getting hit with a big bill from Uncle Sam that would leave them unable to pay all their new employees. My understanding is that accountants told such people/businesses to have a wait and see approach. Prior to the most recent election, with the left holding both sides of the house and the White House, it was fairly likely that the temporary cuts Bush put into place would have expired and not continued. Consequently, people with money were holding onto it pretty tightly, not wanting to commit to future expenditures if they were about to take a new annual hit to the bank account. The election changed that when the balance of power in the legislature shifted. |

Well that makes sense. However my belief about "trickle down" theory is that it never trickles down because buckets are held out to catch and keep the trickles instead of letting them reach the peasants.
