How Long is Your Christmas?

I consider "Christmas" to be from the weekend after Thanksgiving to New Year's Day. If it were only one or two days or meals that would be sad and boring.

Well, I don't think of Thanksgiving to New Year's as Christmas, but I do consider it the "holiday season." I usually celebrate Hanukkah, Festivus, Christmas, and New Year's. Activities for Hanukkah and Christmas tend to span multiple days. Festivus and New Year's, not so much.

Of course - It wouldn't be Festivus if we didn't!

It occurs during the Festivus meal. Each person tells everyone else all the ways they have disappointed him or her over the past year.

I guess you wouldn't like the Feats of Strength portion of the festivities either then:

After dinner, the head of the family tests his or her strength against one participant of the head's choosing. Festivus is not considered over until the head of the family has been pinned to the ground. A participant is allowed to decline to attempt to pin the head of the family only if they have something better to do instead.

Gee. You learn something new every day. Does the head of the family really have to be pinned or can he/she sort of "allow" someone to pin them? And are we talking arm wrestling or full body wrestling?

I agree -- that really sounds like the exact opposite of the love that Christmas symbolizes

It isn't Christmas. It's Festivus.

Since you love it, you must then be able to answer my questions posted above. I'm truly curious about the whole thing.

Wildwood I don't think there are any hard and fast rules. You simply need to pin him down. If a person wants to take a dive that's their option just like in any other situation. It's really hard to explain the comedy of it all if you have no idea who Frank Costanza is or know his personality.

Love it. Loved the film clip. I thought I had seen most of the Seinfelds, but I guess that is one I missed. or it didn't register at the time. Now where can I get a pole.

I should have known someone would be selling them and that someone on here would know about it. If I only had some spare money. In fact I can guess what my husband's biggest complaint about me would be if I bought it. It would probably trump everything else I've done this year.

We have a mini Festivus pole. It's a paper towel tube wrapped in aluminum foil. It's the Festivus equivalent of a Charlie Brown Christmas tree.

Too funny. I just finished wrapping gifts and have an empty tube I could use but I would be the only one in the house to find it funny.

Happy Festivus to the rest of us.

Happy Festivus all I think I'll skip the airing of grievances as there is no shortage of grievance airing around here.
