The "Future"

If I would have guessed as a teenager there would be a day when you could listen to any song you want as often as you like (youtube) interact with friends and family from around the world (Facebook) and carry a phone in my pocket and type to find out anything about anyone or anything I would have built a time capsule and jumped into it.

Yippee for modern technology!

I know what you mean. But I've come to expect more and more. I find waiting for my microwave is tedious. I want things faster. That cute phone doesn't always seem to be able to do a search, depending on where I am at the time and the darned battery doesn't last long enough.

Sometimes I'm driving in a rural area, zipping along at 60 or so, and think about the pioneers who would take a whole day to get where we get in 20 minutes or so by car, faster by plane.

I think television has changed the world. Not always in good ways, but mostly good. And what would we do without all our remote controls? The last 100 years has been really remarkable when you think of all the changes in the way we live our lives.

I agree so much I dearly love my computer I love youtube I love my cds because I love music soooooooooo much, the cell phone I like for emergencies and just family members, texting is something this almost 48 woman will never get a handle on lol. The television omg I can watch all my favorite movies over and over and I love having the musix surius sp.. on the television, so I put on my favorite music stations and go about my business cleaning around the house listening to my favorite music from the 60's 70's and 80's... Blessings in this holiday season to all. Catherine

I am a teacher for the last 35 years. Technology has changed school and teaching in so many ways. We e-mail parents instead of writing notes or calling them. We post homework and other kinds of things on websites. The ditto machine has gone the way of copiers that can copy on all types of paper and copy on both sides, collate, and then staple for you. Even alarm systems talk to you. We can show DVD's, blue-rays, or video clips from computers instead of filmstrips or reel to reel movies.

Man, I agree with you!

But I remember a few years back, I posted about being at my son's graduation from elementary school, and when they anounced my son as a winner of an award, as he started to walk to get to the stage, someone had a cell phone on. It rang loud, where she promptly answered it and had a grande ol' conversation. All the while, my son is walking on stage to get an award for having straight A's all year, and this loud mouth jack ass was chatting up her BFF on her cell phone in the middle of a elementary school award ceremony. It was bad enough that she ruined my son getting his award, but she kept talking and it was the younger kids getting awards then, so me and a few other people politely asked her to take her conversation outside as not to be a total disruption. She showed her ass with her waving her hand in the air, we don't pay her cell phone bill so we don't get to tell a grown ass woman when and where she can or can't talk on the phone.

I posted it here about cell phone decorum and promptly got my hind end handed to me on a platter. I was wrong, she was right and I needed to live with it.

Things that make you go hmmmmmm? Because I still don't get why everybody took up for her.

I think that was a situation where school authorities should have handled it....they would have the right to tell her to stop disrupting the ceremony and that was what she was doing.

As far as the people here telling you that you were wrong in expecting the call be taken outside, I wouldn't worry about it. We had a thread here about people saying thank you....both on the board and in real life and the majority of the people said that they had no expectation of a thank you. My point that when someone does something that benefits you in any way, those words come automatically out of your mouth was the minority.

That made me go HMMMMM about this board....well that and a few other things. LOL

My dad is 85. He used to say that so much happened during his dad's lifetime that we could never top it. Now, he just shakes his head and says that he never ever would have thought that things would change even more in his lifetime.

What's next?
