While you see lots of birds at the reserve I go to in Lakeland, FL, I've had little to no luck seeing any of the mammals that are there. People have reported seeing the Florida panther. Not sure I want to be that "lucky".

Yesterday I was walking my favorite trail and heard something in the water next to it. Then, about 30 seconds later, something came crashing out of the woods and crossed the trail. This one stopped and let me get a photo.



I had heard there were otters in that park but had never even seen one, never mind the 3 that I saw yesterday. It was a good way to start the New Year!
