What do you think of this proposed bill

Personally I do not see this passing. On the news they said the bill would cover tricycles as well. what do you all think

NJ lawmaker wants bike license plate requirement
The Associated Press • January 13, 2011

Under the bill proposed by Essex County Assemblywoman Cleopatra Tucker, riders or their parents would pay $10 a year to register their bikes with the Division of Motor Vehicles.

Anyone caught riding an unregistered bicycle on public property could face a fine of up to $100 for each offense.

Cleopatra said that she proposed the bill because senior citizens called her to complain about children on bikes. The seniors told her they had been knocked down but had no way to register a complaint because they couldn't identify the rider.

It very well could.

It's revenue, it's ridiculous, it's yet another layer of government, it remedies the minority and not the majority.

Yes, I think it very well could pass.

I am torn about this one. Bicyclists use the road although their wear and tear is a lot less than any type of motorized vehicle. If they pay it should be a lot less than other types. And I certainly don't think children on bikes should have to pay. Adults who use the roads is a different story I guess if they really are that hard up for revenue, and a lot of places are that hard up.

children on bikes are robbing people and much worse, so I say yes.

Stick your cane in the spokes as they zoom by and see if they do it again.

From NJ here and the bill has been shelved. Even toddlers with tricycles would have been required to have this. More wasteful spending in this state. Our DMV offices are already a joke and the lines take hours to navigate. Seriously, how big would the plate have to be for someone to write down the numbers? Education is what is needed, not a license plate. As an aside, heard on the news tonight that New Jersey has the most residents leaving the state then any other. We are hoping to be part of that trend within the year. Just can't afford to live here anymore.
