Red face Oh my goodness we got a dog!

We have only had cats for several years. The kids have been wanting a dog or puppy but dogs are soo needy and when you have 6 kids, well you don't need a dog too.
My sister had several dogs, was moving, so she has been slowly getting rid of some of them. She had a youngish Pug that my kids loved so we now own her. I'm not really sure how old she is, not sure if my sister even knows. She got her from a Pug rescue place. Her name was Maxine, but she doesn't really answer to that. I told the kids I was going to name her Gloria G They did not appreciate that.
I also call her Wigglesworth because her whole body wiggles when she's excited.
Trying to find her a good dog food that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. My husband decided last year he didn't want to be married to me anymore, funny it was after I was seeing a therapist and was coming into my own person, anyway he moved in with his girlfriend. Not getting any cs yet but it should start in February.

What made me think to do this rambly post, she is so snorty. She snores so loud when she sleeps. She's always cold too. I used to always make fun of Snuggies, especially the dog ones, now I find myself looking to buy some for her.

Oh and I keep telling everyone, if I had to have a dog, why could I have one that was at least cute. Or a dog, like a real dog. I like big dogs like Labs or Mastiffs. But here she is, my dog

She has grown on us. I wouldn't have ever called her cute before, but she's ours and is precious.
I was out shopping at Petsmart with my oldest daughter and her boyfriend, this was just a few days after we got the dog, and I was complaining about having a dog. Then I was looking at shirts and dresses for the dog. Buying her treats and new toys and bones. My daughter's boyfriend said, I thought you hated that dog.
How could I hate her? When the kids are at school she curls up in my lap and sleeps, and snores.

What a cutie pie. She needs a tiara and a tutu to reach her full beauty potential, but she's pretty darn cute without.

Petsmart had all their Christmas stuff 75% off when we were there and they had the cutest dress with a red tutu, I almost got it for her.

OK I am now officially a dog mom, the dog just sneezed and I went after her with a tissue wiping her nose. My 7 year old, home sick today, laughed at me.

What a sweetie!

It's amazing how they grow on us, and so quickly. Beautiful dogs, big dogs, little dogs, so-ugly-they're-cute dogs - they are truly made for us!!

Enjoy your new "baby".

I love pugs! I'm a dog groomer and they are one of the sweetest breeds ever. I had one the other day who was just a little butterball with his curly little tail. So sweet. Happy for you...enjoy your dog! ~Lisa

Hey Eddie Vedder number one fan, wtg how precious so adorable little pug, me too I think they are adorable, but you really cannot get a straight answer out of me, because I love all dogs. Love the part about how she sneezed and you got a tissue to wipe a nose. As I stated before some people might feel , they are just our pets, for me and I know many others, they become our children, not born from our bodies, but born from our hearts and souls. So overjoyed with this news and your children must be so happy, enjoy her and love her and she will love your family endlessly... A really cuite pie for sure hugs... Catherine

We also have a Pug, his name is Elvis LOL His temperament is perfect for our family but I went out and bought a Dyson the second week we had him. They *really* shed alot. And our pug needs a bath fairly often or he stinks. He really enjoys his baths. I think you will enjoy her, they are very loyal dogs. And don't her ears feel like velvet? Elvis sleep sin his dog bed on the floor by my side of the bed and snores all night long, it's very comforting to me.

Aww. Very sweet.

I used to work for a vet and we had a couple elderly pugs who would board with us now and then. Their elderly owners always left home-cooked meals for the dogs to eat while they were with us. Their favorite was spaghetti and meatballs! (Not very healthy for a dog, but we figured it was more important for them to have the comforts of home while they were with us than the perfect diet.)

Yep ears like velvet. We've been giving her a bath every Friday night, she seems to like it. If she starts to hate it or her skin gets dry we'll slow it down a little.

My sister has another pug she's had forever, Maggie May(named after the Rod Stewart song, she loves Rod) and she sheds horribly, so far this one doesn't seem to shed as bad.

She is completely spoiled and we love her so much already. Poor dog. I don't know much about her past, just that my sister got her from a Pug rescue and her name was Monday, my sister named her Maxine. It doesn't suit her. I've been calling her Gloria G I told the kids I buy her food so please let me name her.

I'm not sure what kind of food to buy. I bought her the best I could find at WalMart, the store we were at but she really doesn't seem interested in it. I made sure the first ingredient was Meat and not corn. I want to get her something better, either Chicken Soup or Blue Buffalo, but so far she's not much of an eater.

So adorable!!!! I'm partial to big dogs since I grew up on a farm with St. Bernards, but I told the DH that this would be the smallest I would ever go. He loves pugs! It's amazing how they grow on you. We had 2 cats before and they we're like children to us since we don't have any. Took us about 5-6 years before we got another one and she is so spoiled! She had a quite a hard life in the year before we got her and she's only 2. Every time we go shopping she ALWAYS gets something even if it's only a can of food. She has us wrapped around her furry little paw! LOL

What a cutie! I have a friend who has a pug, and she LOVES her so much! We have a pitty..and he is the biggest baby that I have ever seen. We also have four cats, and he is very gently with them....in fact, the cats rule the house!

Congrats...can you tell me how the cats are feeling about the new addition? I have 2 cats and wanting a dog now, but I am very worried about the disruption to the household. Specifically worried about the cats going off of their good potty habits in protest over a dog joining the houselhold, or even the cats harming a dog with their claws or teeth.

Congrats. They grow on you very fast don't they. I'm not a dog person, but the three hubby brought home are my babies.
Find out what your sister was feeding her and start with that. Slowly switch her diet to the new dog food. We feed our dogs Taste of the Wild or Wilderness by Blue Buffalo. I highly recommend going grain free. Most dogs don't tolerate wheat, corn or soy very well. We switched ours about 2 yrs. ago. Before that our golden mix was getting lots of hot spots. Since the switch he hasn't had any. He also had a lot of gas which was EXTREMELY stinky, but not anymore. They eat less and their poop is less stinky and they don't go as often.
HTH,
Judy

The cats are adjusting. They haven't had any litterbox issues but they do hiss at the dog still at times. They are all getting used to each other, slowly.
The cats are all close though, two are brother and sister, and then one is the female cat's son.

My sister was feeding her something really bad I can only assume. She brought over a zip loc bag of it and I swear it looks like it is made out of play doh. Some junky type of food I think. Kibbles and Bits type of stuff. I don't think pet food should look like play doh.

We have cats too and they definately rule the house, even though the dogs are 95 and 75 pounds (they are the dogs in my profile picture). The bigger dog sometimes won't even pass by the cats in the house, it's too funny, when he is trying to go from one room to the other he will wait for me to walk past so I am between him and the cat then he will pass. I'm thinking "really, your 95 pounds".

Now if a cat comes into the backyard, it's another story, they will go after the cat. It's almost like they know they are not supposed to go after the cat in the house, but outside they think it's ok, cause they chase possums, skunks and squirrels and everything in the backyard, I guess they figure a cat is ok if it's outside.

Hi there hope all is going well once again totally adorable and about the cats, as we all know cats can take a little longer to adjust to a new dog or puppy. However I am sure in due time they will all be best friends as my shelties and cats are and even our ferrets. Yes you heard right we have 2 ferrets very adorable very loving and totally love the cats and dogs no problems. Good luck and so happy for you.. Catherine

Congratulations on the new family member! I think that doggie is cute but then I'm biased towards dogs. Dogs are the best people in the world! I am sure your family will enjoy many years of love!

Spoiled rotten. Kids, cats and now the dog

My kids have all been sick with a stomach bug. This is my 7 year old last night. She was asleep on the sofa. The dog loves to sleep with her. This is how I found them sleeping last night.

And I think the name Gloria G fits her, gives her a Pearl Jam name and she is the most glorious doggie!

LOL!!! What an AWESOME pic!

A little "puppy therapy" goes a LONG way when one doesn't feel well, too!

my oldest <17> came out of his friends house a few days before Christmas saying "Mom please I want him!" Im like what the heck is he talking about.... all of a sudden a head pops out of his hoodie. its a puppy weighs about 2.5 pounds vet says he's possibly a rat terrier. all I could say is you gotta be the one to talk to your dad. it was suprising cause sons not really into animals at all. when he was in about 6th grade he was waiting at the bus stop and was attacked by a dog someone moved and left in the backyard for who knows how long so hes really not into animals.

the puppy looks like a really small husky cause he has all the markings and colors a husky would have. so I puppy sit every school day, we get all the kids off to school and then we curl up and take a morning nap together lol which actually im surprised of cause the puppy hates to be away from my son hes got some attachment issuses there but he doesnt mind staying with me now so hes working on them
