Maybe if they had read it before they passed it they could have saved all that money on the court costs the taxpayers are going to incur to fight both sides of this battle... |

Melissa, the ruling came down just about an hour ago (I think it had been reported earlier that it was expected today). Twenty-six states were jointly suing the federal government, saying that the government had no authority to place the requirement to purchase something on an individual citizen. Since the entire bill hinged on the government's ability to force that purchase or fine those in violation, the entire bill becomes null and void if that one element of the bill is no longer in effect. At least that is the way I understand it. It will likely end up in the Supreme Court... at least that is what they are saying on Cavuto. Judge rules healthcare reform unconstitutional | Reuters |

Applauding here!! Agree with you, Lisa!! While I agree that everyone deserves the right to health care, I disagree with forcing ANYONE to buy medical insurance or worry about being fined or worse. There are TOO many in our country that are barely making it with the bills that they have now so imagine what forcing something like that on them would do to them financially. |

While I agree with not forcing people to have to buy health insurance, in so many cases now instead of the former having more things and keeping up with the Joneses, it's become chic to cry poor because everyone else is. There are more people who have money than they want you to believe. They simply choose what to spend it on and don't prioritize the way others do. Healthcare has no instant gratification. You can't use it at a restaurant, can't drive it, can't live in it, can't talk on it, can't wear it on your fingers, can't take a cruise on it. Those are no more necessities than healthcare is - dependent upon one's manner of thinking and prioritizing. dl |

Healthcare is not a top priority to many. They wouldn't think twice about getting a new cell phone, buying a new purse or going out to dinner on a Saturday night. When a much better decision would be to bank that money for future medical care. But...its okay, because the government will make sure they get needed medical care, so why not spend their money on more *fun* items! Our insurance changed drastically last year. We now have a very high deductable, and no more co-pay for medicines until you reach the deductable. One of the things that I have a hard time with is that they will pay 100% for drugs to quit smoking, or control drinking...yet they won't cover my DH medicine that is needed due to his stroke, or my medicine for my ulcer. To me...thats crazy. |

I felt this is what would happen. With the such a high unemployment rate it would mean that thousands of people who lost their jobs through no fault of their own would be required to carry health insurance and would be possibly fined for not having it when they can't even buy food for their families. That is ridiculous. And to make a small portion of the population pay for everyone else's care is also ridiculous.

| I agree with you on that! I think the whole entitlement system needs a re-work.
