Lions and Gorillas and Birds... OH MY!

In a fit of stupidity, I decided to leave my scooter home and walk the Animal Kingdom. I have now learned the difference between distance and time spent on my feet. It seems I can walk 3+ miles in less than 2 hours and not experience much discomfort. The same cannot be said if you're on your feet for 5+ hours. Currently I'd like to have an out of body experience.

Well, that being said, it was still a nice day. We got up there around 9:30 and had no plan on what to do. So, when we got to the Tree of Life, we began to walk around it. There are all sorts of paths you can take.

When you come around the back of the tree, you'll find yourself right near the wallabies.

We ended up in Asia.

Our first stop was the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail. There's a large area filled with beautiful birds from that part of the world.

After that we headed over to Africa, first stopping at Flights of Wonder to watch the show.

Africa like Asia was pretty empty. The wait time for the safari was only 10 minutes and I don't think we even waited that long. We went on twice. Some photos in no particular order.

And probably my favorite picture of the day.

It was around this time my back started to give way. I got cranky and we decided to get back to the car and take a quick trip over to the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

We were back home by 4 pm. So all and all a good day. The weather was nicer than I thought it would be. Once the clouds burned off around noon, it was almost hot! The crowds were a non issue. January and the early part of February is a great time to visit the park.

Sadly I didn't see Mickey at all ... or Donald. Maybe they're on vacation.

There is so much more to Florida than just the theme parks. This is one of my favorite YouTube videos. It's a take off on Disney's Soarin attraction. The movie in the Soarin ride is about California. The person that made this video put in Florida areas instead. I wish Disney would do the same!!

The Tree of Life has "green leaves" all year long.

The mountain is actually a ride called Exhibition Everest. It's a coaster and, no, I haven't been on it. Maybe some day when I'm feeling really brave.

The photo of the lion was a lucky shot. You pass them during the safari ride. The driver was kind enough to stop so we could take pictures.

The gorillas are in a large enclosure. Disney uses invisible fencing. Mostly water areas or deep trenches that the animals won't want to cross. It's really clever and makes you feel like you're right there with them.

Thanks Virgo so much for posting these wonderful amazing photos you took of your trip to Animal Kingdom. Like I said we did it many years ago, when they first opened up and it was in August sooooo hot. As a huge animal lover, these pictures are amazing and the one with the tree of life, I have a picture of us in front of that tree , it is an amazing tree. PLease let me know do they still have the lion king show going on there, it was so beautiful and so colorful our children loved it so much. I agree I would love to live part-time in either Sanibel or the Florida Keys, Naples is nice also but very expensive like Sanibel and Captiva Islands and Islemaroda sp..?? Thanks so much again. The Festival of the Lion King is still going on. We were going to try and see it yesterday but never got around to it. Maybe next time.

Agreed Devinsmom , we have huge mountains of snow and with all the freezing rain, during the week, those mountains have become all ice, and yet sadly we are expecting snow tomorrow night, and we are going into the city, which in the city is not that bad, and then more snow on tuesday . Virgo your a lucky girl and keep those amazing pictures coming, especially of animals just love them... Catherine

Those were great! My wallaby-obsessed toddler was really, really (his current favorite phrase) impressed by them.
