best credit for dd in college...

Looking for the best credit card out there for my 21 year old college daughter who has a part-time job. Just want to establish credit - pay off fully every month.. also, which one has the best rewards for signing up right now. We've done a lot of searches last night but still unsure. thanks in advance.

I'm not sure about for someone with no credit, but Chase Freedom card looks good for now. If she can get it, it is one year interest free, some nice cash back amounts, ( can't remember the details), and $100 cash back if you spend $500 in the first three months. If she can get this it might work well for her. The cash back cards are nice. I have two, and Amazon with Chase and a Sears MC that both give me either cash or rewards. I just turned in my points on the Amazon card for $100 and the Sears for a $50 Outback and a $40 Macaroni. But we charge anything and everything so the rewards add up fairly fast.

I would avoid airline mileage cards or hotel cards. The value fluctuates and they are often hard to use when you need them. I also doubt if she will spend enough to make those worthwhile.

If she has trouble getting that type of card since she has no previous credit, then she'll have to go to a high interest, no reward card and you might have to co-sign at first. Just look for something with no fees, annual or otherwise, and as reasonable an interest rate as you can find. I know she will be paying if off each month, but sometimes things happen. Good luck in your search. There are so many choices. At her age and with a part time job, I suspect she might be able to get the Freedom card or something similar.
