Should we get involved in Libya?

Just curious to see what the opinions are here...

I am torn about this. On one hand I feel it's at least partially our duty to ensure that there is stability around the world and to protect other people from oppressive rulers. We also need to be vigilant that terrorist groups don't jump in and take control where there is instability.

On the other hand it's hard to draw the line between helping and interfering. What do the people of that country want? And how do they feel about us in general? And how can we continue to in debt ourselves doing things overseas when our own people need jobs and financial stability?

I wish I had the answers it's one of those situations that's difficult.

Unhappy

At this point in my life, while I sincerely wish we could help anyone who truly needed help, however sadly with the state that our country is in, we truly need to focus on the United States and take care of our country first. Like Anna said I wish I had all the answers but I do not, lately what happened in Japan has made me so terribly sad, I cannot even imagine what those people are going through. Catherine

Thumbs down

What I don't understand is how our country can afford to help all these other countries that need help when our state is in such sad shape it can't even afford to fill the pot holes in the roads? How does this helping everyone make any sense? Shouldn't WE be taken care of first and foremost?

Not sure I totally understand what is happening in Libya. There has been so much news I have not followed it like I should. Can we afford NOT to get involved. Not financially, but isn't it also a question of what is good for our future? When you are talking about the safety of our country long term, is money really an issue? If things go horribly bad overseas, it affects us, and our financial future will not matter much at all.

Am I way off the mark here?

Seems as if this decision is already being made......

All I can think of at this moment is that is something "he" will not be able to blame on 'you know who".

That is exactly why I am torn and exactly why we, as a nation, continue to pump money overseas even when we can't put a crumb of bread to our own lips.

is Libya a direct threat to the US?
is Libya an indirect threat to the US?

How would our involvement benefit anyone?

Do we need to stick our nose in everyone's business? Khadafi (sp) has been around a LONG time---find it odd that getting rid of him now is so important.

I did a search on Libya to try and figure out what exactly is going on there but can't seem to make sense of anything I found.Could some kind soul please explain to me or send me to a link that explains what is going on in a way thats easy to understand ?

Personally, I don't feel armys going over there to go kill people is going to solve anything except create more chaos for the innocent ones that are already are stuck there.
