Waterless shampoo, suggestions

I'm just back from hip replacement surgery and my hair is a fright. Has anyone ever used and liked the results of a waterless shampoo? I'll be some time before I can shower or wash my hair and my hair resembles an oily softer Brillo pad. HELP!

I've been in a similar boat (post-surgery, can't get body wet) and I'm sorry to say that none of the waterless shampoos seemed to do the job. In fact, "PSSSST" made my hair feel grosser. Can you get a friend to help you wash your hair in the sink? That's the only thing that worked for me.

My neighbor just had neck surgery and is in the same boat too. She said the stuff they gave in the hospital felt good as it was a long time since her hair was washed, but it did't make her hair look good at all. I don't know if it helps, cause I never tried it, but people say to either take corn starch plain, and rub on hair and then brush out. It is more, I think, for taking the oil out if you hair is the oily type. I would get someone to check hair salon places like Sally's and maybe they could suggest something. If you find anything good, please post.

Really? Some of my family members including my DH and I have used PSSSST and it worked beautifully for us. The trick is to not use too much. Spray on a little bit at a time until your hair looks like you want it.

Psssst. lol. They still make that junk? It made my hair look dull and flat. There really is nothing comprable to washing your hair. Sorry.

Thanks for the suggestions. The therapist came and took a look at my kitchen sink and said I can wash it there if I can the hold right pose long enough. Basically I have to keep my leg, back and head in a straight line. So if I lean forward over the sink and keep my left leg straight out behind me, (gently putting some weight on that extended foot), putting most of my weight on my right leg, then someone can wash my hair while I'm in the "position". Right now, some big iffs with my holding that for long, but I'm going to have to try it. I have enough clearance beyond my sink to get my leg out and not everyone has enough leg room to do it. I'm making a list of the brands suggested, just in case this doesn't work.

Maybe just go to a cosmetology school, they are very cheap to just have a wash and style.

I would do that, but I'm not supposed to be leaving the house yet all that much, (Medicare evidently has their rules), and there are a lot of restrictions on what movement and positions I can get into. I may try that anyway. Even if they don't set it, I would be happy. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll call the nearest beauty school and see if they can handle my situation.

I feel for you. My husband had a hip replacement in Nov 2009. Thankfully we have a walk-in shower so he was able to shower immediately.

Different docs, different rules I guess. I have a walk in shower as well, but I can't get the wound wet for some time now. Frankly there were so many do's and don't's that I can't remember exactly when. I'm still wearing the ever lovely compression stockings and taking lots of pain meds. Well not lots, but enough. I have to write these questions down for the nurse when she comes on Monday. Until then, I'm stinky and stylish.

Medicare has alot of rules if you receive home health services as PT, Ot . But in the state of n.c you can go to the dr, drug store ( if no one can go for you) to church and to the beauty shop one time a month. You CAN NOT drive yourself but you can go with someone. As for waterless shampoos, most of them feel good while someone is washing your hair with it but then when it dries, it looks like hell. lol.. The way I wash peoples hair that can not bear weight is with a shampoo board that goes under your head while you lay in the bed and the water runs out the end into a bucket. I have washed many peoples head like this when they have had knee, hip replacement .hope this helps.

The compression hose will go on easier if you power your legs before putting them on. If they are TED hose and have the toe out, try slipping something silk, like a scarf over your toes before putting them on then pull it out the hole. This realllly helps.

Wildwood, can you sit on the floor-even if it means getting help up & down?
If so, get a removable shower head and sit with your back to the tub and lean your head back-like at the hairdresser- and have someone wash your hair.
Hope this idea is useful.

Try baby powder. It is supposed to "absorb" the oil in your hair.

Dry shampoo is a specially formulated powder that gives hair a clean appearance and fresh feeling. It absorbs the excess oil that leaves hair looking greasy between washings. All you have to do is apply the “shampoo” to your hair and then brush it through. The result is soft-looking, lightly fragranced hair and a few more days before you have to get out the liquid shampoo.

Although still somewhat of a beauty secret, this powder shampoo is available from several cosmetic brands in a variety of prices and formulations. It has been around since the 70′s and was traditionally sold in a shaker but is now also available in a more convenient spray bottle. It can be a little pricey, but it pays for itself in terms of saving money on water for washing, electricity for drying and styling, not to mention the cost of styling products. Moreover, the time saved by using this product makes dry shampoo well worth the money. It is also usefulon short trips so you don’t have to lug around all of your styling tools and products.

I forgot that there is a Brand that I use- Oscar Blandi. I have purchased it at Sephora and it is available all over the internet. I have purchased the other Kind at Target in the Black can and the scent gives me a headache. The first one works the best for me and I have pretty greasy straight hair.
