I saw Elton John in concert!

On April 15, my sweet hubby took me to see Elton John in concert! It was a thrill for me truly it was!

I love live concerts, and I'm one of the lucky people who was able to see Elvis Presley in concert in my teens. The first time was 1974 when I wass just 13. I saw him 3 more times, the last being May 1977. When he died in August 1977, I cried all night. But my mother, this woman who wasn't spontaneous in any sense of the word, came in my bedroom the next morning and said 'pack a bag, we are driving to Memphis.' It was a 7 hour drive (at least, we had to stop a few times.) When we got there, they had stopped letting people file past him. It was SO hot, brutally hot. But we stood outside his house for hours, just shoulder to shoulder with people we didn't know, would never see again. Yet we were all connected in a way we would never forget.

Fast forward to real life kicking in; I got married, had kids, my mother passed away and I had another son. Somewhere along the way I put what I thought was my childest desires and as a stay at home mom, I took care of my family. But about a year or so ago, my boys were watching a movie (Kick A**) and as I was doing dishes, I heard a song; at that point, I could close my eyes and hear Elvis Presley singing it live. I realized how much it meant to me. At that point, my boys and hubby started buying me Elvis Presley CD's, some of his concert DVD's and even a Blu-Ray. It's been a great journey and I'm enjoying every second.

The other day my oldest son asked me if there was anyone else I'd like to see in person. The only person was Elton John, but I didn't think he'd ever tour again much less appear in Kentucky. Was I wrong! A few week later it was announced he would be here, and my sweet son bought tickets that morning. I was so excited!

He was great, I had a wonderful time with my husband. Elton is a true rock star and didn't disappoint. He came on stage at 8:10pm and stayed over 3 hours. All of his greatest hits and even Matt (who went in as a non-fan) came out impressed.

I'd love to hear your experiences of who you have seen in concert? My last concert before Elton John was Barry Manilow in 1995 (I know, I don't get out much.) Now last year we took our sons to see Joel McHale, but that was comedy and not really a concert.

Good for you! - glad your dream came true. To answer your question, for pop music, I've seen:
Bruce Springsteen
Tom Waites
Todd Rundgren
Bonnie Raitte
Elvis Costello
They Might Be Giants
Steve Forbert
Doobie Brothers
Meatloaf
Jackson Browne
Joe Jackson
Muddy Waters
Gilberto Gil
Herbie Hancock

Comedians:
Jerry Seinfeld
Wanda Sykes
Janeane Garafolo
Steven Wright
Dame Edna
Gilbert Gottfried
Jay Leno (back when he did standup)
Harry Anderson (I got dragged up on stage at this one)
Kevin James
Penn and Teller
Lily Tomlin
Mike Birbiglia

That's all I can think of right now.

Thanks jujubee2, it really was a dream for me.

Wow! You've been to a lot and I think that's great. When I was sitting there last week, that was one regret I had. I forgot the excitement, the thrill, or the thrill of the sheer electricity of seeng someone coming on the stage.

You still have time! Make sure your family knows who you like - maybe they'll surprise you again!

(Speaking of regrets, a woman I worked with once asked me, "What do you think, should I go to concert x, or buy a new blouse I really like?" I asked, what do you think you'll be regretting when you get old? That you didn't see and do enough things when you were younger, or that you didn't have more blouses?" She said, "blouses." Oh well, I tried!)

Wow -- That sounds like you had a great time. And, you get the bonus of remembering Elton AND how thoughtful your children are. Double bonus!

Our last live concert was Carol King/James Taylor last year. My most memorable was Harry Chapin in 1977. I still have the signed tee shirt and a signed book of poetry. It is hard to imagine that the 30th anniversary of his death is this summer. The show I went to was just him and his guitar. 1/3 of the profits went to WHY that night. We listen to Harry at least once a week. His memorial stone reads the following:

Oh if a man tried
To take his time on Earth
And prove before he died
What one man's life could be worth
I wonder what would happen
to this world

We don't live in an area where there are many concerts, so travel is usually required! Thirty years ago...when hubby and I were dating, we went to 38 Special,Travis Trill, Charlie Daniels Band, Kiss and several other concerts. This past year we have had several concerts on our local waterfront, due to a couple of very ambitious individuals. We were lucky enough last summer to see Tim McGraw, Miranda Lambert and Alan Jackson. I have also seen Keith Urban three times in concert.....the last time, in Boston, ninth row seats. I have to say that the last KU concert I attended was by far the best I have seen. He just puts so much out to his fans...gets down in the crowd, makes you feel a part of the show! I just recently purchased tickets to see Brad Paisley this summer. My mother in law went to see Elton John a few years ago, and was very disappointed. She said he did not sing many of his *hits*.

I LOVE Elton! He truly has one of the best voices ever.

I haven't been to many concerts lately.

Hell's Belles (female AC/DC tribute band) 2 yrs ago
Great White about 15=17 yrs ago
David Cassidy 3yrs ago

I grew up in San Francisco and attended so many of Bill Graham's Days on the Green at Oakland Coliseum that there is no way I could remember them all. Not to mention all the Cow Palace concerts, free concerts in Golden Gate Park, concerts in venues that no longer exist.

San Francisco in the 70s was so full of concerts that I would have had to keep a journal to remember them all.

I can tell you who I haven't seen and that's The Rolling Stones which is ironic because they were always my favorite band I have notebooks full of articles and photos to this day.

Quite a variation of artists - but I love almost any music:

Bay City Rollers (twice, 15 yrs apart - nobody say a word! )
Journey
Paul McCartney (twice)
Billy Joel
Janet Jackson (twice)
Tantric
Virgos
Creed (several times)
Paula Abdul
Color Me Bad
Genesis
Frank Sinatra
Steve Lawrence
Trans-Siberian Orchestra (MANY times, and will continue each year)
G3 (Famed guitarists - Joe Satriani was one, I can't remember the others)

I had REALLY wanted to see Michael Jackson, just once.

The most memorable concert I attended was the 1965 Shea Stadium appearance of the Beatles. You couldn't hear a thing but being there was amazing. I still have my ticket! I also saw them 2 other times in Boston.

One of my favorite concerts happened right before 9/11. I saw The Everly Brothers at the South Shore Music Circus in MA. The whole night went by without them singing my favorite song, Walk Right Back, but they closed the show with that number and I was beyond thrilled.

Others I'll never forget... Ray Charles at the Music Circus, Brenda Lee at City Hall Plaza in Boston (and 50,000 people singing Rockin Around the Christmas Tree in July!! ) and Paul Revere and the Raiders at EPCOT, WDW.

Sounds like you had a wonderful time. #1 on my list of really must see but never have seen is Bon Jovi.

I am 64 years old and the ONLY concerts in my whole life that I have attended were to see Elvis three times -- got a scarf at one of them A few weeks ago, we went to see "Return to Grace" at the Fallsview Casino in Canada which featured a wonderful Elvis impersonator (he was absolutely gorgeous and had a great voice). Brought back so many wonderful memories of Elvis.
