| Why do Things Bug You?
A recent study looked into this. One finding in here is yet again evidence that the reason people are annoyed by people talking on cell phones is because they can't hear both sides of the conversation. You rarely hear people complaining about people having conversations near them but I hear ad nadseum how people on cell phones are annoying. You Bug Me. Now Science Explains Why. : NPR On the subject of cell phones this recently happened in Oregon. Amtrak train stalled near Salem after woman refuses to put down cell phone | OregonLive.com I wasn't there and I am guessing there was a lot more to it than just cell phone talk or even what's printed in the article. But I'm guessing that a woman talking to another woman or a man in person on the train would not have had the same result.

I actually believe what was said in that article. I'm not anti-phone by any means, but the world is a different place when nobody is where they are. Someone's body is right next to you, but their brain is across town with the person on the other end of the connection. It's kind of like someone singing with earbuds in not really realizing how loud and proud they're crooning. I have encountered people who were being obnoxiously loud as they yakked away in Sam's Club, so I know it happens... and in a confined space like a train... yep, I can see it. I don't usually watch Dr. Phil, but there was a lady on the last couple of days who had an entitlement attitude like you can't imagine, and she's the type of person that I can envision being disruptive to the other passengers. ETA: According to this article, she was riding in a car designated as a "Quiet Car", and cell use is prohibited in those. http://www.komonews.com/news/local/122063929.html Last edited by wowitsdark; 05-18-2011 at 02:45 PM. |

The rest of the story Loud cell-phone talker removed from quiet car by police - Yahoo! News She totally deserved to be kicked of the train if this is correct.

For me personally I have stated this before I only only use my cell phone for emergencies and if I need to get in contact with one of my three children, my husband, my parents, or my father in law . All others can wait unless it is a real emergency. I have a very simple phone, no texting never did it never will. The thing that really bugs me about cell phones is when people who are in a very public place and carry on a really long personal phone conversation for the whole world to hear, I think it is plain rude, and more then that it is the people who drive while talking and texting, because if you choose to do that while driving you are putting innocent people at serious risk or death......Peace and sunshine to all. I like texting because the message is just there. They don't have to respond immediately, don't have to pick up to be able to know what you want... I can leave my kids texts and when they pick up their phones, the message is just waiting for them to read without having to take the time to call voicemail. It's like sticking a Post-It note on their car window without having to drive around town to find them. :-) |
