If ss checks are stopped, will it effect you?

Just wondering how the government playing with the debt will effect others. If they stop social security checks and government checks, will it effect your family?
My parents are on ss but live with my sister. My husband is on disability due to neurological problems from viral encephelitis. I work but my pay check will just cover our bills. My son-in-law works for the federal government. Hopefully, they come to an agreement soon.

No. We do not get it yet.

My mom does, but she has savings that will sustain her until it's resolved.

I'm sorry to hear about your husband's condition. That must be extremely difficult.

The answer from here is:
No from us too. We both have parents and one grandparent that receive but it's just a supplement to their savings and they will just adjust back using only that figure in their monthly budget planning. No change of living, just the anguish of listening to so many of their friends that will not be as fortunate.
When the well is dry, it's dry. We've all seen it coming for so many years and now facing it in reality is bigger and scarier than most thought, but one thing is for sure, you can't "borrow" your way out of debt. It just doesn't work. When you're in a hole, you don't keep digging hoping to find a way out.

My parents also have savings and profit from their house that they sold 2 years ago.

We have gone through a recession before in another state. We have a small savings. I work in a private school in an area where most of the parents work for the federal government. I am a few years away from retiring. It seems that everything we start getting ahead of the game something else pops up. Good thing I have always shopped with coupons and have a stockpile.

But I am worried about my son-in-law. My daughter is expecting a baby in the next two weeks. They don't need to be without insurance or a paycheck.

He got it 6 1/2 years ago. His major problem is headaches that led to seizures. The doctors had tried many meds but the headaches/seizures were not completely controlled. For the last 2 years, he has been getting botox for the headaches which has helped a lot. Of course, we were paying out of pocket for the cost. Last week, we found out that the insurance will start to cover it. Now the government is saying unless they resolve the debt issues, no checks come August.

Unhappy

It will not effect us, and what ever my parents get, if it is not enough we provide for them thankfully, I am happy for that, but sincerely unhappy about anyone who has to do without the basics, here we are in the richest country, and we still have hunger and sickness and so many medical bills, very sad, when people have worked their whole life, to reach their elderly age and have to worry. At that time like my parents who worked all their life, they should not have to worry...Peace and blessings to my friends.....Catherine

It will not personally or directly effect us. However I think it's disgusting. If they can't balance the budget and figure things out then all the paychecks for Congress, the Senate, and the President should be the ones to not go out. What b@$t@rd$!

Red face

I agree with you on this and all feel that the salaries movie stars and all celebratries sports players included, what they receive as a salary is ridicious, I think if some of them were alive today, they would be rolling in their graves. When the middle class people who work and break this backs just to put food on the table or the elderly who need medication, cannot afford it, not fair at all...Peace and blessings to all my friends...Catherine

I totally agree.

DH and I both receive social security and it would be an extreme hardship for us since my social security check does not even cover my $1199 a MONTH medical insurance premium I'll be 65 in February so our financial situation will improve dramatically then.

Thank God, DH gets his medical care from the VA or my medical premium would be almost $1700 a MONTH!
