Hmmmm......wondering if anyone has any experience with this?? We went to a function over the weekend and the dress code called for retired military, and active duty to come in the dress of the day. Well, I was taken aback when I saw a young man who did not graduate Boot Camp due to a medical issue. He did not receive a "dishonorable" discharge and is trying to get his medical situation cleared up so he can reapply. It is my understanding that he should not have been wearing his military uniform. His uncle is retired from the military so I figured maybe he knows something that we don't as to why he was in uniform. Anyone have any experience or knowledge in this type of situation??

I ~think~ a federal law was passed regarding folks who imitate, present themselves as, conduct themselves as, etc active duty military. I am hazy on it, but it was in the national news media. Even without a law, it is unacceptable for someone to do this. Patriotism is what drives this, they want the attention, they are wannabes. I can't tell you how many supposed Green Berets and Navy Seals have come my way according to their families. I believe they tell the tale, embellish the stories, and yet the families have no documentation, or their dd214 isn't available. If dh was still active duty, I most likely could get an answer for you, sorry he's not. Perhaps your congressperson's office could be of assistance? dl |

Editing to add if he wasn't honorably discharged, yet wasn't dishonorably discharged, it's possible he was "discharged under other than honorable conditions". It's kind of a middle ground, however, he still has no active duty status, benefits, and certainly isn't enlisted and thus cannot wear the uniform.
