From what I have read, it isn't an issue. The comet will not come close enough to earth to do any damage as far as I can tell.

I was going by the historical pattern this thing has when its alignment with other objects causes havoc here on earth (earthquakes of larger magnitude). And if this thing did get pulled into our orbit...not much time to plan on that front unless people start building underground bunkers (not realistic).

I had read that an upcoming alignment in late September would be the first time for Elenin to sandwich in between us (the earth) and the sun.

No matter what happens then, NASA recently in June send out a reminder that
it pays to have an Emergency Plan in place and that now would be good time to
sit down and talk to their families about unforeseen events.

I haven't heard of it either...well I did see some link on my home page about some asteroid...

As far as I'm concerned, I really think that as far as the Earth goes, it's about overdue for a really good cleansing! Humans have pretty much managed to all but completely pollute the world and since we've figured out how to treat any illness that may have in the past controlled the human population...I think an asteroid or some other catastrophic event is about our Earth's only chance to cleanse itself of the scourge that is infesting the planet now and will only get worse as the population EXPLODES!

I am not in the least bit afraid to die!

My opinion is that if an asteroid hits the earth, no amount of prepping is going to make a difference.

The media sensationalizes everything...Bird Flu, Y2K, Swine Flu, SARS, MRSA, etc., etc....

I don't get worked up at all over this type of thing.

I just don't want to be one of the few remaining people trying to fight to stay alive and fighting over the last dandelion leaf to eat!

The very fact that you know those left would be fighting over dandelions tells me alot about you. LOL!

Would you really want to be one of the 800,000 "lottery style" chosen people to go to a safe underground bunker only to emerge long after to a VERY changed world?


But back to real life. Would you want the Govt to give as much info as they could so you'd know a time line or would you rather just have a "Hey! Heads up! In three days we may be wiped off the face of the earth?"

I vote for the more time option, and don't know that I'd do the bunker for a year or more movie style kind of option. I wasn't born a mole!

I'm more worried about the solar flares that have been hitting us. The last big one happened in the 1800s and the only electronic we had was telegraph, which it wreaked havoc with. If we get a big one pointed at the right place on Earth we'll be in big trouble.
