Oh my God, for heaven's sake this is not music at all. Mind you driving with my younger daughter she loves this music and so do many of her peers... Oh how I wish she would go back 2 years when she loved all the music from the sixties. Me and my husband both cannot stand the lyrics.... I only hope and pray it is a phase in her life, because I too loved different music from my parents when I was younger. However the music, in my mind is not music, the cursing and the words are horrible. I can only say sex and curse words really do sell....not only that I find it degrading the way they speak of women in the songs and they use the N... word so much....Again not music at all, not for my ears anyway. However she is an adult and is entitled to listen to what makes her happy. Give me the old music anytime....Peace..Catherine

Our kids are appalled by it. For us, it is a matter of the values we instilled and expected. God really is their first priority, and I think it is pretty clear that the hate and degradation that rap pushes are not on God's list of approved behaviors. The stuff is trash.

I agree 100 percent total trash. With that being said so many young adults like my daughter really listen to this music. I shake my head, my son and older daughter love the music from the 70's and really the 80's, they think the 80's music was the best so do me and my husband. However again her car, her music, we all went trough various sometimes difficult phases as young adults. I honestly feel and know my younger daughter will see the light and soon . A bit off topic when we were younger my dad did not like the rock music we listened too at all...he used to say it is all screaming, how can you listen to that music, my brother Michael loved The Doors and my dad would always say, oh that music gives me a headache, all that music, the Doors, the Floors and the Walls.. thinking back that was funny.......Peace. We also installed excellent moral values and to be polite and caring and loving and respectable towards all walks of life.. However the truth is while I do not call rap music, music at all, for many young adults they simply like to listen to you and in no way do I consider my dd to be anything else but a real smart educated young women who is so unlike me. She is very determined, is a real go getter, always looks at the glass half full, it is just her choice of music is not ours, but it does not make her a bad person at all......Peace.....Catherine

Every generation has an older generation saying how much their idea of "music" stinks. I remember when rap music first came on the scene, people were getting up in arms because of the language but during the fifties Elvis' music about love and his gyrations closed down concert venues, incensed parents and authorities about the "jungle" type of music and dance. During the roaring 20's the music, the dress, the dance were all thought to be immoral for the time and lots was spoken about how awful that younger generation was. This isn't new. I am not sure what kind of music my kids enjoy. They listen to all kinds. I think that Rap musicians are pushing the envelope and trying to up the ante so to speak by having very explicit lyrics but I haven't heard very explicit language on the radio. Young people are always trying to make their own statement.....the flower children of the 60s. the disco children of the 70s, techno and old school rap of the 80s and 90s were "the worst music in the world and were going to be the downfall of society". IMHO, I think there are lots worse things than that and if my kids are listening to hard core rap, it isn't a reflection on how they were raised, their morals, or who they are.....it is the type of music they listen to. I listen to the Beatles, love Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds but it doesn't make me want to drop acid. KWIM?

I generally agree with you, usnamom, in that every generation has it's way to push the envelope. But within any given 'generation' there will be kids who don't fit that norm. I just so happen to have kids like that. I myself wasn't a kid like that. I didn't listen to the most extreme stuff available in the 80's, but listened to stuff that in retrospect was on the vile side. I was pretty naive, I'd say, about sexual references in Prince's music, etc.. I knew some of his stuff was bad, but didn't 'get' what it meant an until I was an adult. And of course Donna Summer needed her hot stuff baby tonight and I didn't totally get that when I was in 6th grade. lol But I know without a doubt that my own kids really are appalled by the extremely explicit stuff in rap music. It goes against their very core values, and they just don't find it entertaining. |

I absolutely LOATHE it. But not only just rap but almost all of the music that I hear today is just plain old garbage. I thought I'd die laughing when my 40+ year old female neighbor pulled into her drive and I heard this loud thumping music and looked out the window to see what AZZH*** was playing their music so darn loud only to find out it was HER!!!! HAHAHA! Some stupid azz Eminem song with Rhianna singing about some abusive boyfriend. I thought "WHATEVER?????" I don't know if Eminem is even real rap music though? What I don't understand is where did the beat in music go to? You can't even tap your toe to this S**T! To me the whole music world fell apart when the stupid sounding Alternative music with bands such as Nirvana came out, I was still young then even but I absolutely hated that music so much! Still do. Bring back the good old rock and roll. There is no wonder why the old music from the 70s and the 80s is still being played all the time, it's because it IS the BEST!!!!! |

A person's choice of music does not speak volumns on the kind of person they are, it is just one small part of whom they are. There are millions and millions of people who listen to rap, who listen to hard rock, or hard core rock, it does not make them bad people. Like I said not for me, but for many young people like my beautiful daughter who like I said is one of the sweetest girls on this earth, we are so dearly proud to be her mom Usnamom again totally loved what you said, all your wrote was the truth, thanks again. I too loved Prince and Madonna and Donna Summer loved all their music.......Peace. Catherine

Having hit my teen years in the 80s, I got to hear from parents (not mine thankfully) about how the music we listened to was going to drive us straight to drugs. I listened to Motley Crue, Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica, Tesla, etc. I NEVER touched illegal drugs (although I consumed a little alcohol). I didn't turn to Satan/Devil Worship. Why you may ask? Because I knew that it was just music. I'm not thrilled with some of the lyrics of the popular music of today--but, I hope that I can raise my children like my parents raised me. It doesn't hurt that the SO is a musician. And plays and enjoys a variety of music.

Yes exactly Marilyn , those were some of my dad's words to my brothers, if you listen the Doors, or Led Zeppelin, it will drive your head crazy and you will want to take drugs like them. However none of us ever experienced with any form of drugs, thanks do God. Peace. Catherine
