Household repairs? Do you hire someone?

or do them yourself? As much as I like to save money, this is an area where I prefer to spend the money. DH does not have the time to do a lot of it, and even tho he can do them, we have to pay someone else, since time just does not allow.

It really depends on the repair. We do most of the house stuff on our own. We like it, we are pretty good at it.

We have however recently hired a lawn guy twice to do our yard. Hubby has been working like crazy. Before this weekend he had three weekends off all summer. Two of them we took our nieces to the beach for the night.

So it depends on the job to be done.

If I can't do it, we hire someone. I don't do plumbing or electric. Dh is not a handyman and has no patience for it. The few times he's tried it ended up costing us a lot more to fix.

Dh usually plans on fixing stuff, after awhile I get fed up waiting and hire someone.

If I can't fix it, SO can!
If it's broke, he can usually fix it--and if he can't his brother can

Red face

My husband has his own family business where they build homes for a living, so he repairs everything from himself to the men who work for the company..

We almost always have to hire professionals. We occasionally try to do things ourselves but usually end up having to call someone. I wish we were more handy.

Between my husband and I, we can do the small jobs but we cannot do any major repair jobs. We can do stuff like replace an outlet or toilet flapper and paint, can even replace light fixtures and ceiling fans. The bad thing is trying to find a competent company(person) to call out!

I am blessed. My husband can fix anything. I don't know how, but we even joke about it. He really can fix anything and everything!

You are blessed for sure!!!!! I'd love if my husband was a handy man! I grew up in a house where my dad was not too handy either but yet my brother was like your husband and can do EVERYTHING...he just knows how and doesn't really know why he knows...HEEHEE...problem is he lives 1000 miles away...BOOHOO!

Mine too! We save a bundle because he is so talented - Fridge, Stove, Hot water heater, Washer, Dryer and our cars.

The only thing we paid a repair man for was on our outdoor part of our air conditioning unit a couple of years back and it had something to do with the freon license or something - He could have replaced the part no problem, but wanted to recharge with freon afterward so we called for a appt.

I don't touch a thing. DH does it all. He laughingly says he's bought more life insurance for if something ever happens to him so I can pay for repairmen. LOL!

There was a Cosby show ages ago where the whole family conspired to keep Bill from knowing about a leak in the bathroom. I was in stitches that whole show because I do that with my husband. There are some things I will let him tackle because he can't do too much harm, but others I just try and convince him that it's a job for a professional. As he's gotten older, that becomes easier. But every now and then he fixes and then I call the repair man to fix the fix.

Yep, this is my DH, too He is absolutely useless when it comes to any kind of repair work.

I just call my brother to "undo" what DH has done
