I have occasional hip trouble (related to my last pregnancy - I carried him on one side the whole time, and went a little lopsided and have never fully recovered!). Mine is hormonally-connected in that if I have trouble these days (a couple of times a year), it manifests itself as a PMS symptom. That makes sense if you think about it, because there are 'girl hormones' that are responsible for relaxing your musculo-skeletal system in preparation for the baby to exit, and some of those same hormones surge and wane through your PMS cycle. In my case, when those joints get lax, my hip joint goes a little bit out of socket, and it really hurts! When I was first dx'd with my hip being a little out of socket, my dr. looked at me from behind, and when I was standing as straight as I could, those two dimples on either side of the top of your rear end at the bottom of the spinal column were not even with each other. That's how he knew it was my hip. I did a little PT, and the PT showed me exercises I can do to work it back into place on my own when it happens now. The main one I do is lay on my back and hug my knee (on that side) in as tightly as I can, and then extend my leg so that my knee joint forms kind of an "L" shape... and my husband puts his hand up to my foot as resistance, and I'm to push my foot as hard against his hand as I can... and then try to hug my knee in to my body as tightly as I can. If I do that several times, it usually goes back into place okay. |

Okay, if you came into my office today there would be an evaulation. Based on where the pain sits they might do x-rays to see how much arthritis there it. After the diagnosis (and each of these items are different depending on diagnosis) Hip injection in the bursa with cortisone If it is an inner hip injection they can do a visco supplement under fluroscopy lights. prescriptions to get inflamation down prescriptions to go to therapy to have them work on the specific area topical prescription strength medications that help the area by numbing the nerves. I am not a doctor. I do work in orthopedics and these are the main treatments. Hope it helps |

If you are not going to the DR soon try taking about 1/4 teaspoon of ground Ginger. I just put it on a spoon and toss it in my mouth and wash it down, if you cant take powders, try mixing it up in a little juice water or what ever you think you can drink. If you get relief in about 15 minutes or so it is swelling of some kind. I have arthritis in my back and slow walking such as shopping gives my back a fit. With a widowed handicapped sister that has a ton of DR apts and currently can't drive period, I spend a lot of time taking her where she needs to go. She moves very slow and when I walk slow to stay with her, my back makes me miserable. Sometimes I take Ginger upto 3 times a day depending on how bad my back is hurting. I know this may sound like an old wives tale, but DR Oz has even suggested cooking with Ginger to help with arthritis pain. As I don't cook much, I just down it with al little water or what ever is handy. HTH

I would say, and I'm not a doctor, that after 2 or 3 weeks, it's time to see one, if there's no improvement. Once you know the cause, then you can figure out what steps are available to you and whether you want to do them or live with the pain. If you are in pain, you start favoring that side, and that puts undue stress on the other. Or you tend to stop doing things that make it hurt and that's not good for a long time period. Pain meds might just mask the pain and make the situation worse in the long run. I know all this because I've been there and done that. |

I am not a doctor or nurse, but my daughter who is 15, and her hip pops out of place frequently. When it does it is very painful, hurts to walk, makes it hard to even walk, hurts to do anything. I take her to the chiropractor and she pops it back into place and she's fine. For her it's something that just started happening this school year, but it has happened 3 or 4 times a week, it doesn't just happen when she plays sports, it has happened when she just gets out of bed, or went to get on the bus it happened. Hoping we are getting past it, she has gone 2 weeks this time without it popping out of place. We did also go to the regular doctor and get x-rays and and exam to make sure it wasn't anything else either.

Update...my dr said that the xrays didn't show anything, and told me it was probably a pulled or strained pelvic muscle and he gave me muscle relaxers. But last Tuesday I had a cysyt rupture and while at the er they did a CT Scan and the dr in the er said that he saw a small stone on my left side (where the pain was) The pain has eased up some, but if I overdo it, I am in pain again ![]() Penny, thank you for asking about me KellyJeff, I hope you feel better soon
