Prayers are with the family. Two years ago, I had a pair of twins in my class that have CF. They had other health problems too. They are fine right now. When my daughter went to one of her first OB visits, she found out that she was a carrier for CF. Luckily, her husband was not a carrier. |

Thank you everyone. Read, from what I have read you can be carrier but the father has to also be the carrier to pass CF to the child. I am sure you know that. I am glad to hear the twins are doing well. It is so sad. I am sad for her family. Lauren was a unique girl and had so much more life to live. Thank you everyone. It means a lot.

Actually, I am familiar with the disease because I had another student about 20 years ago, with it. In that class I also had a student with severe asthama. The CF student is still during fine and is about 30. The student with asthama had an attack a few years ago and died. In my school, we also had a teacher that had two kids with CF. Her daughter passed away when she was in 7th grade. In order for a child to get CF, both parents have to carry the gene. Then there is a one in four chance that each child will get the disease. Since my daughter is a carrier that means that my husband or I am also a carrier. But in the old days, we were not tested for CF. |

Read, I was not saying you did not know about the disease was just trying to say I am sure you know about it. No harm done. Sometimes it is hard to tell what someone is saying on a message board. Lauren had asthma too..I am curious does it affect the person differently if they have asthma? Sorry to hear about the one that died. It is a horrible disease. Thanks everyone for praying for her family during this difficult time.

Sorry I was only trying to explain the disease a little further. I have found that many people do not understand CF. I know that it does affect other organs in the body. Each person who has CF has a different organ affected. When I had the twins with CF two years ago, I tried to get as much information about it that I could. The boy had trouble with his stomach. His sister also had trouble with her stomach and had a tummy tube to help her take in more food at night. She was also diebetic (sp). When her sugar was low, she would talk funny. In that class, I also had another diebetic child and another girl with a tummy tube with a disease that caused her to throw up. It was an interesting year. Now they are all in 8th grade. I have never heard of a person with CF and having asthma. |

Read, Thanks for sharing the story with me. I do not know much about this disease at all. Laurens liver was affected by the disease. When she went on the list for the double lung she also was on it for the liver. Laurens kidneys went into shut down mode at the hospital and was put on dialysis, but soon after they was able to take her off dialysis and said her kidneys were functioning normal again. Thank you Melissa and everyone for praying for her. My sister went to the funeral and said her mother was doing ok and better than expected. Thanks again.
