I am glad to hear it was funny! I wanted to see this but was afraid that all the funny parts were in the previews. Eddie Murphy has made some duds lately and I am not a fan of Ben Stiller but the previews looked funny. Thanks! I know what we are doing this weekend besides watching Navy play Notre Dame.....I believe that after that game, I will need something funny to lift our spirits!

Well I generally like Ben Stiller so this might not be your cup of tea. But I was laughing so hard on a couple of occasions that I almost had tears in my eyes. Or maybe because I've seen so many less than stellar movies lately that this was refreshing. I saw another movie a couple of weeks ago that I liked. The Big Year, with Steve Martin. It wasn't at all what I expected, but it held our interest and we left it amazed that we liked it. It's about bird watchers and I'm still amazed that they made such a nice gentle movie that was fun and sometimes funny about bird watching. Another one that I loved, but I'm not sure is getting good reviews is Real Steel with Hugh Jackman. I took my eleven year old grandson and left husband at home since I only had two tickets. We both enjoyed it a lot. I won't give you the long list of ones I've seen that were less than impressive. We've seen quite a few movies in the last several months and most were not worth the effort. Glad I'm not paying for the tickets. |

I saw The Big Year too and I really liked it. There weren't any huge laughts in it but it was a sweet movie, I thought. My husband saw Real Steel and loved it while I saw The Big Year. We have a theater near us that shows first run movies for 3 bucks before 4 so we see a movie or two each week most of the time. We have also seen some duds. Lots of them. Did you see Contagion? That was a pretty good movie that scared me into not wanting to ever, ever leave my house again. We saw Moneyball the other day and even though everyone told us to see it.......it wasn't as good as everyone said..or I just don't get baseball. BUT Brad Pitt was in it and I could spend two hours watching him stand in a closet so it was ok.

I missed out on Contagion. Saw Money Ball and thought it was just okay. The main reason I went to see Ides of March was Clooney. Like you say about Pitt, I can watch him do almost anything. Ides of March was another so-so pic. But there was one line in it that I love. I may not have it exactly right but close, "It's not the redistribution of money, it's the distribution of money." The cheap movies here are $5, but I get so many for free that we don't bother unless we miss something that looks really good. Last night I had tickets for both Tower Heist and Anonymous, at the same theater. Picked Tower Heist and that seems to have been a good choice. But I might still like to see Anonymous. It depends on the reviews. |

I think I would like to see Anonymous from what I saw of the previews but I haven't read any reviews on it so I will wait as well. I like Clooney as well but haven't seen Ides of March yet. There are some great movies coming out in the next few months I would like to see but we are moving and where we are moving, movie theaters are outlawed....I know, I may have to have rehab to get through the next few years....

Saudi Arabia. I can possibly stream movies there, I won't know for sure until the middle of this month when we are going over to pick out our housing. I will come back until the New Year and then go over until it gets too hot and then I will come back to the US until Fall. Movie theatres and alchohol are all banned along with women driving and I will have to wear an abaya (long overcoatlike thing) whenever I leave the compound.

Thanks, Anna! It is exciting on one hand and scary on another. We have moved numerous times and there have been many different cultures to get used to. Southern, Eastern, Midwestern. LOL! But this time, there are so many rules to follow...we have to have a two day culture class and 100 hours of language as well!

I can survive without alcohol, but I'm not sure about movies, TV, books and my computer. They don't even show them on base? That's sad. But I understand that there is at least one mall there where men are not allowed and shopping can be fun. Or is that mall in Kuwait or UAE? Do you have a Kindle? It might be time to get one, or something similar. I had one for a whole week and loved it, but sent it back. Getting a newer and better one in a month. The new Touch. It has an on screen keyboard and sound. The one I sent back had a toggle type keyboard, which I found annoying. You will still be able to come here and keep us posted won't you? if you can't, then you can't go. I think it sounds exciting except for the scarf thingy. I get so hot that it would drive me crazy. My winter coat is a sweater, until it gets below about 15 degrees. I'm having a panic attack just thinking about it. I'm also claustrophobic and it seems like it would be constricting as well as hot. Guess Saudi Arabia is off my "Too Visit" list. |

LOL! That abaya may kill me as well. It has to be black and cover from my neck to my ankles and to my wrists. I do not have to wear a head scarf but have to carry it with me in case the religious police tell me to put it on. I have to carry a copy of my marraige certificate with me especially if I am with my husband to prove we are married. Otherwise, I can't be with a male who is not my husband or son. We will live on a compound behind razor wire and walls guarded by Saudi Guards with machine guns and we can only get on the compound with id at the checkpoints. Upon arrival, we will have out luggage checked and all contraband (bibles, religious materials, crosses, alcohol, R rated materials, books with women in sexy poses or garb (their interpretation), some racy magazines such as Cosmopolitan, pork products) will be confiscated. There are huge malls we hear....but the Saudi women are not allowed to work so most if not all of the sales people are men.....even Victoria's Secret and such. There is a mall that has a floor that is strictly for women so I won't have to wear my abaya when I am shopping on that floor. Yippee! There are no theatres we are told....some of the compounds have DVD rentals but the R rated ones are not to be found.....but I suppose we can find anything if we look hard enough. We can go into Bahrain on the weekends and watch movies and have a drink with dinner if we want. I will still be able to visit here and on FB. I plan on starting a blog as well to document this adventure for my kids. My son is deploying to Afghanistan next year and he says we are going to Saudi to keep an eye on him this deployment! LOL!

Well if your son is that close, then when he gets a little time off, he can pop over to see you. Maybe. I'm not sure why we put up with that nonsense. As long as it doesn't leave the walls of the compound there should be some leeway. Still an adventure. Ah to be young again and have things like this to look forward to. It took us two weeks just to figure out where and when we would take a ride and look at the fall foliage. Almost missed it we were so busy discussing it. |

I will post the blog site when I get it started......I will probably do so when we leave on the 10th for al Khobar ....... I don't think my kids will be allowed in Saudi Arabia....we have heard that the Academy and the Marine Corp won't allow them to come on vacation, unfortunately. Our Marine Capt. says he has no desire to set foot in the Middle East unless he has orders to do so! LOL...I guess his deployments before were enough for him. Needless to say, he isn't exactly thrilled we are going over!
