facial hair

My neighbors daughter is growing a beard! The birth control pills are the cause and she had tried about every one out there and its still the same. does anyone know of any good treatment to remove facial hair? She tried the neet and nair and both burned her skin. Cant afford the lazer treatments. any other ideas????
waxing helps for a day or so but it seems to make it come back darker.

Watch the Groupon type sites. I just bought my son 5 laser treatments for $199. The treatments are good for face and neck. This is normally close to $800 I think. Still a lot of money but better than retail. BTW, laser evidently will not work on white hair. Also, if the pills are causing that to her hair growth, just think what else they might be doing to her. I would give serious thought to another form of birth control, assuming that is the reason she is taking them.

And if all else fails, shaving may be the only viable option. Since I've gotten older I seem to be losing hair in some places and gaining it in others, such as the occasional stray hair on my chin. The occasional stray hair has now climbed to several, so I've been looking into options and so far have no come up with any that I like. I may take up shaving. I can do it by feel in the shower, I think, without great bodily harm.

I do electrolysis. It doesn't ever seem to end, as I have been going on and off for 22 years. At first, I went about 2 times a month. Now I go about 3-4 times a year. I wish I had back all the money I have spent over the years. I don't know whether they are the same ones still growing or new ones. Nair, etc. I would still have the stubs right away and the same with waxing. I used to pull them with a tweezer and that made them come back thicker. What we women go through!

I think for starters I would give up the birth control! There is no way I would continue to take a medication that made me grow facial hair unless I HAD to!!

She should consult with whoever prescribed the oral contraceptive. They usually have the opposite effect, that is they slow the growth of facial hair by lowering testosterone levels. Is she sure the pills are the cause? Maybe she misunderstands and she has another condition like polycystic ovary disease. Oral contraceptives are often prescribed to treat the polystic ovary disease, which is the actual cause of excessive hair growth.

I just read an article about this today. I can't find it now. But facial hair growth was one of the symptoms of PCOS. And, they take birth control pills to control it. Here is some info about it, I will keep trying to find the article.

Well that's a relief!! I'd never heard of birth control pills causing facial hair growth.

I know next to nothing about birth control. I took it for about nine months 23 years ago!! Interesting.

I found the article I read earlier. I have no idea if it relates, but I wanted to post it just in case it would be something to look into.

Well I'm thinking after menopause. I had my hysterectomy when I was in my late 40's and then went on Premarin, (before the scare) and took that for several years, (until the scare). After that was when I started seeing odd little chin whiskers. Just two or so at first. I still don't have many, but I have to keep on top of them. I get two kinds of hair growth. One are whisker like, stiff, and the others are fine and hard to see and because of that get long before I can spot them. Some are so fine that tweezers have a problem catching them. The fine ones are odd. They often don't come back in the same place twice.

I have a friend who just turned 80 and in the wrong light you can see that she has almost a full beard of white whiskers on her lower chin. I was going to suggest laser to her until I read that it doesn't work on white hair. Now some people evidently have white hair, but their follicles are dark. Then it's possible to use laser.

I have always had more hair on my head than anyone needs, but it seems to me that's it's starting to thin slightly. I guess all that hair is migrating to my face. Oh Joy! That saying "Getting old is not for sissies, but what's your second choice?", is soooo true. The only good part is that your eyesight fails so you can't see how hairy you are. This me, complaining about several chin whiskers. I think.
