craigslist question...

I have browsed craigslist before and even given my email a few times when looking for a dog about a year and half ago, but I have never gotten a random email from someone I did not contact. Is this even possible? Is there somewhere on craigslist you have to leave your email open to the public and I have not seen it? Please help.

Is it possible that the random email was actually a scam email from someone? Asking because I have received "random emails" from Craigslist and they turned out to be scam emails. I am not sure how they get our email addresses though.

What makes you think there's a connection to craigslist?

Anyone on CL that hits your reply link can reply to your email address that is linked with the account. I found that scammers would email me over and over so I started putting my cell phone number in but guess what? The scammers now text me or call me. The only way to get around it is to make an email address exclusively for selling each item or making a phone number from Google fro each item.

When I have a question about an item for sale on Craigslist, I "copy" the listed item (sale-xxxxx) and paste it to my email to compose a question. I never see any personal email address from that person. It goes directly to their email address which they had provided.

Hope that helps.

Think I got it figured out. Talked to a friend of mine last night, it's probably not random, unfortunately.
